Snyder said she needed time to recharge after nine years leading the company. This is a past transition: Textio’s current About page, checked October 8, 2026, lists Colleen Gallagher as CEO, Harris as co-founder and CTO, and Snyder as Founder Emeritus.
What happened at Textio?
Textio announced the leadership change on January 10, 2024. The board unanimously appointed Harris, who was then the company’s Chief Experience Officer, as CEO. The appointment took effect immediately. Snyder said she would remain involved rather than leave the company: at the time, she planned to retain her board seat and serve as Chief Scientist Emeritus, contributing to product development and data-driven research.
Textio is a Seattle-based augmented-writing software company. GeekWire reported that Harris had previously spent 16 years at Microsoft, working on products and interfaces including the Office Ribbon, Outlook email, and Surface touch features. Those are career details reported by GeekWire in its January 2024 coverage.
Why did Kieran Snyder step down?
Snyder’s own explanation was that she needed to recharge and had considered whether she was the right person to lead Textio through its next phase. “If I’m being honest, nine years in, I need some time to recharge,” she wrote. She said she remained deeply invested in the company, but did not want to lead while bringing only part of the energy she believed the role required.

That was Snyder’s stated reasoning, not a disclosed board finding or evidence of an internal dispute. She also said, “I can imagine no better CEO for the next chapter of Textio’s journey,” referring to Harris.
Who is Textio’s CEO now?
Harris took over as CEO in January 2024, but he is not Textio’s current CEO according to the company’s official About page checked October 8, 2026. That undated page lists Colleen Gallagher as Chief Executive Officer, Harris as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, and Snyder as Founder Emeritus. Snyder’s Chief Scientist Emeritus role and Harris’s CEO role describe the arrangement announced in 2024, not the current roster.

What was Textio focused on during the handoff?
Textio’s January 2024 announcement described Textio Loop as a product for inclusive recruiting and Textio Lift as an AI tool for managers’ performance feedback. Harris said the year ahead would focus on taking Lift to the next level.
The same announcement reported that Lift revenue grew sevenfold in 2023, all existing Lift customers renewed that year, and Textio served more than 1,300 customers whose companies employed more than 30 million people. Textio also claimed companies using Lift saw problematic language in performance feedback fall by 50% to 100%. These are figures and performance claims from the company announcement, not independently audited results.

For company context at the time, GeekWire reported in January 2024 that Textio had raised $42.5 million and employed about 100 people. Those are dated figures and should not be treated as a current funding or headcount snapshot.
