Katie Holmes’s lawyer, Jonathan W. Wolfe, disputed reports that she was facing money problems as child support from Tom Cruise was due to end. The financial-distress claims came from anonymous sources, while the widely reported support amount and the agreement’s precise terms have not been verified by a public settlement document cited in the coverage.

What Holmes’s lawyer said

In a March 2, 2024 report, Geo News attributed a denial to Wolfe, identified as Holmes’s lawyer. He rejected the narrative that Holmes was living off Cruise’s support or was desperate for money, saying: “The story is riddled with falsehood. One would hope there would be more newsworthy items to cover, and publications would avoid reporting as ‘facts’ claims from anonymous sources peddling such obvious misrepresentations.” Geo News

The report described the financial-distress claims as coming from prior reports and anonymous sources. It did not provide independent evidence establishing that Holmes was in financial difficulty; Wolfe’s response directly challenged that characterization.

Why the support was reported to be ending

Geo News said Holmes and Cruise’s daughter, Suri, turned 18 on April 18, 2024, and presented that milestone as the point when child support would end. The article does not reproduce the settlement agreement or a court record, so the exact legal terms, payment schedule, and any obligations beyond the reported age milestone are not confirmed by that account.

What is known about the reported amounts

Geo News repeated a figure of $400,000 per year for child support, but its article does not substantiate the amount with primary settlement documentation. It should therefore be treated as a media-reported figure, not a verified term of the agreement.

A 2012 E! News report, citing a source close to Cruise, said the agreement set out a support schedule and denied that Cruise paid a lump sum. The same report relayed the unnamed source’s estimate that total support would exceed $10 million. Neither the schedule nor the estimate was backed in that article by the settlement document itself, and the older total should not be treated as confirmation of the later annual figure. E! News

A later financial claim was a separate dispute

In December 2024, Holmes separately called a report about Suri receiving a trust fund “completely false,” according to The Independent. That was a dispute about a distinct claim concerning Suri’s inheritance; it does not confirm or disprove the child-support terms. The Independent
