PerthNow reported in October 2025 that the centre expected a temporary 170-bay reduction and had sought to use the oval for about 411 staff cars. City of Stirling council minutes dated 10 February 2026 later recorded seasonal parking approvals at two nearby schools, each limited to five years and subject to a Parking Management Plan.
What “staff forced to park off-site again” means
The arrangement covers peak Christmas-period demand, when centre staff are directed to seasonal overflow parking away from the shopping centre. It does not mean the centre is closing its car parks or that the school oval is a public parking area. PerthNow’s 18 October 2025 report described the oval as reserved for staff, with the centre roughly one kilometre away: PerthNow’s report.
At the time of that report, the centre’s owner had applied to continue using Karrinyup Primary School oval for approximately 411 staff cars. The report said the centre expected a temporary reduction of 170 bays in the coming weeks. Those figures describe the reported 2025 situation; they are not a current count of available spaces.
What approval status was recorded in 2026?
The October 2025 story described an application and used conditional language because approval was then pending. City of Stirling minutes from 10 February 2026 record a later status: seasonal December parking approvals were in place at two nearby schools. Each approval was time-limited to five years and subject to a Parking Management Plan. The minutes are the relevant source for the subsequent approval status: City of Stirling council meetings and minutes.

How the staff shuttle was described
Karrinyup Shopping Centre General Manager Trudy Cook told PerthNow that the long-standing arrangement had been in place for more than a decade and included an air-conditioned bus operating every 15 minutes. PerthNow put the oval about one kilometre from the centre. The report does not establish that the shuttle serves every staff shift, or that every worker walks between the oval and the centre.

The centre’s official parking information gives a rounded, broad figure of more than 4,800 visitor bays. PerthNow’s 2025 report gives a more precise constructed count of 4,683 and separately cites 4,880 as the maximum permitted. The current page’s rounded number is not evidence that 4,880 bays have been constructed, nor does either total indicate how many spaces are free at a particular time.

For staff
The school-oval arrangement is seasonal staff overflow parking, and the reported shuttle is air-conditioned and scheduled every 15 minutes. The available reporting does not specify service hours, the shuttle route, or whether it covers each shift. Staff who need to know how the arrangement applies to their roster should confirm current instructions with their employer.

For shoppers
The school oval is not a substitute public car park. The centre’s visitor parking information is separate; check its current directions and access details before travelling. The published total of more than 4,800 bays is an overall figure, not a promise of availability during busy trading periods.
For nearby residents and people choosing how to travel
Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the City recognised increased parking demand during peak holiday periods. He encouraged people to use public transport where possible, take advantage of extended trading hours, avoid blocking residents’ driveways and footpaths, and be patient during the Christmas rush. The available sources do not provide comparable travel-time or cost figures for driving, public transport, or staff parking, so they do not support a claim that one option is faster or cheaper for every trip.
