How many taluks were declared drought-hit?
The figures depend on the date and stage of assessment. The Times of India’s October 5 account lists three declarations—101 taluks on August 27, 23 on September 17 and 53 on September 22—for a total of 217 of Karnataka’s 240 taluks. The Times of India
A separate PTI report dated October 3 says the remaining 40 taluks were declared drought-hit on October 1, after 177 had been assessed earlier. These are accounts from different dates and stages; the three phases listed in the October 5 report do not include the October 1 action. Hindustan Times

Loss estimates and relief requests are not final awards
Reported loss totals are estimates, and relief figures are requests rather than confirmed payments. The New Indian Express reported an estimated ₹46,000 crore in losses across 177 taluks. Central assessment teams were still involved
The Times of India reported that three central teams were assessing conditions and that Karnataka had asked them to cover areas declared drought-hit after the initial group. In an October 6 report, The New Indian Express said teams had assessed the initial 101 taluks and were asked to assess the next 77.
