Graduation leads the reported U.S. first-week figures, at 957,000, followed by Late Registration at 860,000. Those historical totals are commonly described as sales, but newer chart reports use album-equivalent units that can include streaming and track activity. The ranking below therefore identifies its metric and separates solo studio albums from collaborations and label projects rather than treating every figure as directly comparable.
Solo studio albums ranked by reported first-week figure
The figures below come from a secondary ranking that labels them as U.S. first-week album sales. It does not establish a consistent accounting definition for every release year, and the figures have not been independently audited as one dataset. Read this as a ranking of reported figures, not a perfectly like-for-like measurement of purchases or streams.

Why “first-week sales” is not one consistent measure
For older releases, rankings often use a sales figure without specifying whether the count reflects paid albums alone or a later chart methodology. Modern reports may instead give album-equivalent units, which can combine paid album purchases with units derived from streams and track sales. A number described as equivalent units should not be read as the same number of people buying an album.
For example, BULLY debuted at No. 2 with 152,000 U.S. equivalent album units in the tracking week ending April 2, 2026, according to Complex. The outlet broke that total into 96,000 streaming units, corresponding to 98.43 million official on-demand streams; 56,000 album sales; and the remainder from track-equivalent albums. The album was available in stores March 27 and on digital and streaming platforms March 28, so its chart week encompassed that staggered availability. The 152,000 is an equivalent-unit total, not 152,000 pure album purchases.

Where collaborations and unusual releases fit
These are not solo studio albums, so they do not appear in the main ranking. Their reported figures are useful context, but their categories and release circumstances matter.
| Release | Reported figure | Classification and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Watch the Throne | 436,000 | Collaboration with Jay-Z; reported first-week U.S. figure, with corroboration in a reference-page summary. |
| Cruel Summer | 205,000 | GOOD Music compilation/project, not a solo studio album; reported by Beats, Rhymes & Lists. |
| Kids See Ghosts | 142,000 | Collaboration with Kid Cudi; reported by Beats, Rhymes & Lists. |
| Vultures 1 | 148,000 equivalent album units | Reported after a five-day tracking period in a reference-page summary; not directly comparable with a standard seven-day week or an unspecified sales-only figure. |
The Life of Pablo needs a separate chart-week note
A secondary ranking lists The Life of Pablo at 90,000, but that figure should not be inserted into a standard release-week sales ranking. The album launched as a Tidal exclusive, then became widely available on April 1, 2016. The Guardian reported that in the week ending April 7 it accumulated 94,000 equivalent album units, counting streams and physical albums, and reached No. 1 after that wider release. That is a later chart week tied to changed availability, not a like-for-like opening-week figure. See The Guardian’s April 2016 report.
