Kalshi announced two separate disciplinary actions on February 25, 2026: it fined and suspended a MrBeast-affiliated editor over trades tied to his access to nonpublic information, and it penalized former California gubernatorial candidate Kyle Langford for betting on his own candidacy. The exchange imposed a $20,397.58 penalty and a two-year suspension on the editor, Artem Kaptur, and a $2,246.36 penalty and five-year suspension on Langford. These were Kalshi disciplinary findings, not criminal convictions.
What Kalshi said the two men did
Artem Kaptur, a MrBeast-affiliated editor
Kalshi’s disciplinary committee said it found reasonable cause to conclude that Kaptur traded event contracts related to a YouTube channel in August and September 2025 while employed by, or formally affiliated with, the agency that was the source of information for the contracts. The committee also said he traded using material, nonpublic information obtained through that relationship. Kalshi’s notice does not identify the exact contracts, so the specific outcomes he traded on are not publicly established in the sources reviewed. Kalshi disciplinary notice
Kalshi found violations of Rule 5.17(y), which covers insiders and employees or affiliates of a source agency, and Rule 3.6(a), which requires members to cooperate with investigations. Its notice took effect February 25, 2026.
Kyle Langford, a former California gubernatorial candidate
In a separate case, Kalshi penalized Langford for trading on his own candidacy. The CFTC advisory says a political candidate wagered on his candidacy in May 2025; Axios identified the candidate as Langford, a former California gubernatorial candidate. He wagered about $200 and posted about the trade. Kalshi’s internal case involved its rule against trading in a contract when a trader has direct or indirect influence over the outcome. What the CFTC said—and what it did not decide
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Enforcement said the conduct potentially violated Section 6(c)(1) of the Commodity Exchange Act and Regulation 180.1(a)(1) and (3). It also said designated contract markets have authority and obligations to police trading practices. The advisory states that exchanges have an independent duty to maintain audit trails, conduct surveillance, and enforce rules against prohibited practices. CFTC advisory

That is the CFTC’s description of potential federal-law violations and its enforcement authority—not a final court judgment or a final CFTC merits order against either trader. Kalshi’s notices are exchange disciplinary actions. Calling the cases “insider trading” is common shorthand, but it should not be mistaken for a criminal conviction.
