Separately, it described a $1.5 trillion, 10-year plan to facilitate, finance, and invest in industries it considers critical to national and economic security. The $1.5 trillion is not a $1.5 trillion cash investment fund.
What the two amounts mean
The SRI combines several kinds of support: JPMorganChase says it will offer companies advice and financing and, in some cases, invest capital. The company’s October 2025 announcement set aside an initial $10 billion for direct equity and venture capital investments. That is the amount relevant to the headline about investing in companies; it is not the same as the initiative’s much larger, 10-year financing and business-support ambition. JPMorganChase’s announcement and its 2025 annual report describe these as distinct figures.

The Associated Press reported that the company planned to finance clients by approximately $1 trillion over the next decade, with the possibility of increasing that amount by up to $500 billion. That reported financing plan is separate from the initial $10 billion in direct investments. Neither figure means every company in a named sector will receive money, and the $10 billion should not be read as fully deployed.
Which industries are in scope?
JPMorganChase’s 2025 annual report organizes the initiative around five verticals. Its examples show the range of businesses that may be relevant, but inclusion in a vertical is not a guarantee of funding or investment.
#1 Best Overall
| Vertical | Examples identified by JPMorganChase |
|---|---|
| Supply chain and advanced manufacturing | Critical minerals, shipbuilding, and robotics |
| Defense and aerospace | Defense technology, autonomous systems, drones, next-generation connectivity, and secure communications |
| Energy independence and resilience | Battery storage, grid resilience, and distributed energy, including systems that can serve rising demand from AI and data centers |
| Frontier and strategic technologies | Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing |
| Pharmaceuticals and health technologies | Medicines, essential medical supplies, devices, and technology |
The five-part list reflects the company’s later annual-report framework. The Associated Press’s account of the October 2025 launch grouped the focus into four areas, with supply-chain and advanced-manufacturing needs together and pharmaceuticals and health technologies not listed as a separate category. These are different presentations at different points in the initiative, rather than proof that the earlier account had the same five-part structure.
What companies will JPMorgan invest in?
The public materials reviewed do not provide a complete list of investment recipients, a sector-by-sector allocation of the initial $10 billion, or a complete total already deployed. They identify sectors and explain that the company expects to assess opportunities; they do not establish which specific companies will receive direct investment.
JPMorganChase says it may provide advice and financing, and invest capital in some cases. A company that receives financing or advice is not necessarily an equity or venture-capital investment recipient. The company has not said that every transaction connected to a focus industry will draw on the $10 billion pool.
The Associated Press reported that the Defense Department had agreed to invest $400 million in MP Materials in a deal JPMorgan helped put together, and that JPMorgan was financing the company’s second U.S. magnet-producing factory. This is an example of activity reported in a relevant industry; the AP account does not establish that the Defense Department investment or JPMorgan financing came from the SRI’s $10 billion direct-investment pool. The AP report describes that example.

What progress has JPMorganChase reported?
In its 2025 annual report, the company said it had received more than 750 business opportunities from company leaders and government officials across critical sectors since the initiative’s launch. It also said it was assembling a dedicated SRI global banking and investment team of more than 30 people and had convened the initiative’s advisory council in Washington, D.C. The opportunity and staffing figures describe a pipeline and team-building effort, not a count of completed or funded deals.
On December 8, 2025, JPMorganChase named Todd Combs to lead the SRI Strategic Investment Group. The company said he would work with its Commercial & Investment Bank and Asset & Wealth Management to identify opportunities among middle-market and large corporate clients in defense, aerospace, healthcare, and energy. The same release announced an external advisory council, initially chaired by Jamie Dimon, to inform the initiative’s long-term strategy and investment priorities. The company’s release describes the appointments and remit.
How the initiative’s geography has changed
The October 2025 announcement emphasized investments in selected companies primarily in the United States. On April 21, 2026, JPMorganChase announced that the SRI was expanding across Europe, retaining the same five verticals and noting its prior intention to expand to the U.K. The release said that an intended appointment of former U.K. Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin to the advisory council was still subject to regulatory approval at that time. The April 2026 announcement describes the expansion.

The initiative signals that JPMorganChase intends to direct financing, advisory work, and some direct investment toward industries it views as strategically important. It does not, by itself, identify publicly traded stocks to buy, promise returns, or provide a schedule of when the $10 billion will be invested. The company’s shareholder letter quoted Jamie Dimon saying, “America needs more speed and investment.” That is the rationale the CEO offered, not an independent measure of the initiative’s results.
