Why was the fight called a title eliminator?
The 25 October 2025 bout at London’s O2 Arena had interim-title stakes: Parker held the WBO interim belt and Wardley the WBA interim belt. Before the fight, the winner was expected to be considered for a future bout with undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. BBC Sport
Queensberry promoter Frank Warren said Usyk had indicated he would fight the winner. Parker’s manager, David Higgins, described the matchup as an “eliminator situation” in the context of a possible shot at the undisputed title. That was a pre-fight expectation, not a guarantee of a contract or payout.
