John Textor’s Reported £400m Wolves Bid Was Separate From Sheffield Wednesday Interest

John Textor’s reported £400 million proposal concerned Wolves, while his Sheffield Wednesday interest was a separate 2025 story. Wednesday later agreed a transfer of assets to Arise Capital Partners.

The reported £400 million takeover proposal linked to John Textor concerned Wolverhampton Wanderers, not Sheffield Wednesday. Textor had expressed separate interest in Sheffield Wednesday in August 2025, but the reporting did not establish a completed takeover. Sheffield Wednesday’s later ownership agreement was with Arise Capital Partners, not Textor.

Which club was the reported £400m bid for?

The £400 million figure was attached to a reported proposal for Wolverhampton Wanderers in October 2025. Sky Sports reported that Textor wanted to buy Wolves and asked whether the club was for sale; separate coverage reported the proposal’s value and said owner Fosun was not selling. The amount and proposal status should be treated as reported details: the available sources do not establish formal terms, acceptance or a completed transaction. Sky Sports and contemporary reporting.

What was Textor’s connection to Sheffield Wednesday?

Textor’s Wednesday story was a separate, earlier thread. On August 11, 2025, The Guardian reported that he had teamed up with football financier Keith Harris in a push to buy the club, with Harris helping to source funding elsewhere; Sportsbank was not part of the bid. The Guardian, August 11, 2025.

On August 27, The Guardian reported that Textor had registered his interest with then-owner Dejphon Chansiri and was seeking talks about a possible takeover. This was reported interest and prospective discussion, not evidence of a completed purchase. The Guardian, August 27, 2025.

How the two takeover stories differ

Story Club and date Reported stage Outcome established by the cited reports
Textor’s Wolves proposal Wolverhampton Wanderers, October 2025 A reported £400 million proposal; precise formal terms and acceptance are not established. No completed Textor transaction is established by the available sources; Wolves were reported not to be for sale at the time. Sky Sports; contemporary reporting.
Textor’s Wednesday interest Sheffield Wednesday, August 2025 Reported interest, funding work with Keith Harris and efforts to arrange talks with Chansiri. No Textor takeover is established. Wednesday later reached an agreement with a different party. The Guardian, August 11; The Guardian, August 27.

The £400 million figure should not be applied to Sheffield Wednesday or compared with Wednesday’s eventual sale terms: the cited sources do not support either claim.

Who ultimately agreed to acquire Sheffield Wednesday?

In March 2026, Sheffield Wednesday announced that Arise Capital Partners LLC—comprising David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin—had entered an exclusivity agreement as preferred bidder. Sheffield Wednesday’s announcement, March 10, 2026.

On May 2, 2026, the EFL announced that the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners to transfer the club’s assets and that Wednesday was no longer in administration. This was a separate process from Textor’s 2025 interest. EFL announcement, May 2, 2026.

Why another Wednesday bidder is not part of Textor’s story

In February 2026, a consortium led by James Bord withdrew its interest in Sheffield Wednesday. That was a separate bidder and a later event, not an outcome of Textor’s reported interest. The Guardian, February 25, 2026.
