A possible Textor link to Derby County remains unverified in the available public evidence. Derby’s separate proposed takeover by Turki Alalshikh’s Lion Sport was withdrawn in August 2026.
Why John Textor was linked to Sheffield Wednesday
In 2025, Textor said he was looking for a traditional English club to buy or partner with. BBC Sport reported his statement: “It’s true that I am looking for a traditional English club to buy, or with which I can partner.” That expressed general intent, rather than confirming a bid for either Sheffield Wednesday or Derby County. BBC Sport
Two Guardian reports then connected Textor to Sheffield Wednesday specifically. On 11 August 2025, the newspaper reported that he had teamed up with football financier Keith Harris in a push to buy the club. On 27 August, it reported that Textor had registered his interest with then-owner Dejphon Chansiri and was poised for takeover talks. Those reports describe a proposed effort and reported discussions; they do not establish that a deal was completed. The Guardian, 11 August 2025; The Guardian, 27 August 2025
Textor also said, in an interview excerpt reproduced by FourFourTwo from The Added Time podcast, “Wednesday is one of the clubs we’ve been looking at.” This is evidence of stated interest, not proof of a completed bid or purchase. FourFourTwo

Who actually bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover went to Arise Capital Partners, a consortium led by David Storch. BBC Sport reported that the acquisition was completed on 2 May 2026, formally ending Chansiri’s ownership. Textor was not the buyer in that completed transaction. BBC Sport
Is John Textor linked to a Derby County takeover?
The available evidence does not confirm that Textor, or a representative, made a formal approach to Derby County. Notes from the club’s supporters’ board meeting on 1 June 2026 say Derby would not comment on media speculation to confirm or deny links. The notes do not name Textor, verify his interest, or describe a bid. Derby County supporters’ board meeting notes, 1 June 2026

That means a Textor–Derby takeover link should be treated as unverified, not as a confirmed bid or negotiation. The club’s response to speculation does not establish who was involved or whether an approach occurred.

Derby’s proposed takeover by Lion Sport involved Turki Alalshikh, not Textor. BBC Sport reported that Alalshikh withdrew the proposal in August 2026 and quoted the club as saying Derby was off the market. That development does not verify a Textor approach. BBC Sport
