His background included helping establish Fortune Data Centers and later serving as president of Infomart Data Centers. Later biographies place his GI Partners tenure from 2019 to 2023, so the 2019 announcement should not be read as a description of his current role.
Who is John Sheputis?
Sheputis is a data-center real-estate executive whose career includes leadership roles at Fortune Data Centers, Infomart Data Centers, and GI Partners. Primary Digital Infrastructure currently identifies him as a partner and co-founder. Primary Digital Infrastructure’s biography provides that current affiliation; a 2025 Northwestern Kellogg conference biography lists his GI Partners tenure as 2019–2023.
What did John Sheputis do at GI Partners?
GI Partners said Sheputis would lead its technology real-estate acquisition and development activities when it announced his appointment on August 12, 2019. The firm’s executive managing director, Rick Magnuson, cited Sheputis’s prior work overseeing acquisition, capitalization, development, leasing, and operation of more than two million square feet of data-center properties in multiple U.S. markets. That figure is Magnuson’s description of Sheputis’s experience in the announcement, not an independently audited measure. GI Partners’ announcement, distributed through PR Newswire.
Later career context comes from Northwestern Kellogg’s 2025 conference biography: it says GI’s real-estate team acquired 30 properties totaling 5.4 million square feet during Sheputis’s 2019–2023 tenure. The biography attributes those acquisitions to the team, not solely to Sheputis.

What happened to Fortune and Infomart Data Centers?
Sheputis helped establish Fortune Data Centers in 2007 and served as its CEO. In 2014, Fortune’s properties and team merged with Dallas Infomart to form Infomart Data Centers, where Sheputis became president. GI Partners’ 2019 announcement says Infomart’s properties were acquired in separate 2018 transactions by Equinix and Stack Infrastructure.
| Assets | 2018 transaction | What the sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas Infomart | Acquired by Equinix | DataCenterKnowledge reported a sale price of $800 million; that figure is secondary-source reporting and is not independently verified in the sources cited here. |
| Remaining Infomart assets | Sold to IPI Data Center Partners and became part of Stack Infrastructure | DataCenterKnowledge’s contemporaneous account describes this disposition; GI’s announcement confirms that Equinix and Stack acquired Infomart properties in separate transactions. |

What is established—and what is not
The appointment announcement described Sheputis’s leadership remit but did not name a specific acquisition target or explain the precise division of responsibility between acquisition and development teams. It also did not disclose compensation or contract terms. GI Partners said it had raised more than $18 billion in capital as of the 2019 announcement; that historical company-reported figure is not a current assets-under-management or capital figure.
