John Deere’s Waterloo Works laid off 112 employees effective January 6, 2025, according to Iowa Workforce Development’s WARN log. The headline’s “more” refers to contemporaneous coverage of a separate notice for 75 employees at the company’s Ottumwa Works; that was a different facility, with layoffs scheduled for February 7.
How many John Deere workers in Waterloo were laid off?
The Iowa Workforce Development WARN log records a mass layoff of 112 employees at John Deere Waterloo Works, 3500 East Donald Street in Waterloo, Black Hawk County. The entry is dated December 3, 2024, and lists January 6, 2025, as the expected event date. Iowa WARN Log
KWQC reported that the 112 layoffs took effect on January 6, 2025. It attributed the stated rationale to low product demand and challenging market conditions. Were the Ottumwa layoffs part of the same announcement?
No. KWQC described a separate notice for John Deere Ottumwa Works. The two notices differ by site, headcount, and effective date:

What does Iowa WARN guidance say?
Iowa Workforce Development explains that federal WARN generally requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60 calendar days’ written notice for covered plant closings or mass layoffs. Iowa’s WARN law covers employers with 25 or more employees and calls for 30 days’ advance notice. These are general requirements; the available notice record does not itself establish a legal finding about compliance in this case. Where can affected workers find support?
Iowa Workforce Development says dislocated-worker support includes Rapid Response Services and Trade Act Benefits at no cost to customers. Affected workers can check the agency’s current IowaWORKS or Rapid Response channels for information; availability of services does not establish any individual’s eligibility or outcome. The agency also describes Voluntary Shared Work as an option for employers facing reduced regular activity. It allows at least five workers to share reduced hours, with unemployment insurance partially replacing lost earnings.
