Jeff Goldblum has said he wants his children to learn independence and find work for themselves as adults. That is not the same as saying they will receive no inheritance: the interview reports do not establish any will, trust, or decision to disinherit them. The often-repeated US$40 million figure is a media estimate, not a verified disclosure of his wealth.

Goldblum made the comments in an episode of iHeart’s Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi, published April 30, 2024. The conversation included his career and raising his sons, Charlie and River, with his wife, Emilie Livingston.
In coverage published May 6, 2024, Fortune quoted Goldblum describing the lesson he wants to teach: “I’m no, you know, conventionalist, but I know the system that we’re in.” He said he tells his children, “I’m not going to do it for you, and you’re not gonna want me to do it for you.”
The Independent reported his related phrase: “Hey, you know, you’ve got to row your own boat.” He framed that as an important lesson for children, not as a statement about a particular estate plan.

In context, Goldblum was talking about preparing his children to support themselves and seek work. He also discussed finding where a person’s abilities and interests meet what is wanted or needed—and acknowledged that sometimes a person may have to take a job even when it does not align with their passions.
Fortune connected the advice to Goldblum’s own experience: he recalled getting piano gigs at around age 12 by calling places himself. The point of the anecdote is the initiative involved in finding work; it does not establish what financial support he may or may not provide his children.
