By May 2026, Amazon MGM Studios said the search for the next James Bond was underway. The studio has not named the actor, and it said it would not discuss specific casting details during the process.
What did Jeff Bezos ask about the next James Bond?
In February 2025, Bezos posted the question, “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” The Guardian described it as a public invitation for suggestions. It was not an announced audition, formal casting process, or vote that Amazon promised to follow. The Guardian reported the post.

Is Amazon casting the next James Bond?
Yes. In May 2026, Amazon MGM Studios stated, “The search for the next James Bond is underway.” The studio added that it did not plan to comment on specific details during casting, but would share news when the time was right. The Los Angeles Times reported on May 15, 2026, that auditions had been underway for several weeks.
That formal search is distinct from Bezos’s earlier request for opinions: the 2025 post invited suggestions, while the 2026 update confirmed a studio casting process.

Why does Amazon MGM control future Bond productions?
Amazon MGM Studios, Michael G. Wilson, and Barbara Broccoli announced a joint venture to house the James Bond intellectual-property rights. The transaction closed on March 24, 2025, and the parties remain co-owners. Under the arrangement, Amazon MGM gained creative control over future Bond productions. Amazon says it had held distribution rights to all Bond films since acquiring MGM in 2022; distribution rights and creative control are separate roles. Amazon’s announcement explains the arrangement.
Wilson said he was stepping back from producing Bond films and that he and Broccoli agreed Amazon MGM should lead the franchise into the future. Broccoli said she would focus on other projects. The change in creative control provides context for Bezos’s public question, but it does not mean that social-media suggestions decide the casting.
