JazzCash says its Chief Product Officer, Aamir Aftab, discussed contactless payments and Pakistan’s shift toward a cashless economy at Money20/20 Middle East in Riyadh. The company framed its role around financial inclusion, merchant digitization and everyday payments; Pakistan’s national payment figures show wider growth in digital-payment infrastructure, but do not prove the country is cashless or measure JazzCash’s market share.
What JazzCash says was discussed at Money20/20 Middle East
In a company LinkedIn post, JazzCash said Aamir Aftab, its Chief Product Officer, joined global leaders at Money20/20 Middle East in Riyadh for a discussion about contactless payments and Pakistan’s shift toward a cashless economy. JazzCash presented financial inclusion as central to its business and described its work as supporting women entrepreneurs, digitized welfare programs, small businesses and everyday transactions. JazzCash’s event post attributes the remark “Well, financial inclusion is at the heart of our business” to Aftab. His title is listed on JazzCash’s company page.
VEON, JazzCash’s parent group, also described Aftab’s participation and said the discussion included QR codes and merchant digitization. VEON claimed JazzCash had more than 600,000 merchants and powered one-third of e-commerce transactions. These are company-reported figures, not independently verified or established as current. The available company posts do not provide a full transcript or an independent session record, so they support only this limited account of the discussion. VEON’s event post
How Pakistan’s payment infrastructure provides context
JazzCash’s event framing is part of a broader national shift, but company claims and national indicators describe different things. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) calls Raast person-to-merchant (P2M) its flagship service for merchant payment acceptance. It supports static and dynamic QR codes, and the regulator says it issued a national QR payment standard in March 2022. SBP’s Raast P2M information

SBP’s FY25 figures indicate that QR acceptance and e-money wallets expanded across Pakistan. They are countrywide measures, not JazzCash performance statistics.
| National measure | FY25 figure | What it indicates—and what it does not |
|---|---|---|
| QR-enabled merchants | 516,317 to 1,092,004 | Growth in QR-enabled merchant acceptance nationwide; it does not establish JazzCash’s merchant count or market share. |
| E-money wallet users | 3.7 million to 5.8 million | Growth in wallet users nationwide; it does not show how many use JazzCash or how often they transact. |
Both measures are reported by the State Bank of Pakistan for FY25. They show adoption of parts of the digital-payments ecosystem, not that Pakistan has completed a transition to a cashless economy. SBP FY25 payment statistics

How JazzCash says its Raast QR service works for merchants
JazzCash says a merchant using its Raast QR service can receive payments from participating bank apps or wallets, with the money credited in real time to the merchant’s JazzCash Business account. The merchant needs a printed or digital QR code rather than dedicated payment hardware, according to the company. Transaction limits apply, and JazzCash says fees are disclosed in its app. JazzCash Raast QR service details
This describes the company’s service offering, not a guarantee that every bank or wallet participates or that all payments are free. Merchants should check current eligibility, applicable limits and fees in the service and app before relying on it.

What the cashless-economy framing means for readers
Contactless payments and QR acceptance can make digital transactions more accessible, particularly where merchants and customers already use compatible phones and financial apps. But a rising number of QR-enabled merchants or wallet users is not the same as cash disappearing from daily life. The figures published by SBP do not measure the proportion of purchases made digitally, and the event posts do not establish JazzCash’s share of national payments.
The clearest takeaway is that JazzCash is presenting inclusion and merchant digitization as part of Pakistan’s cashless-economy drive, while national infrastructure such as Raast provides a shared payment framework. The company’s event account and service claims should be read as such; broader adoption claims should be grounded in national data and kept separate from individual-provider metrics.
