James Marks became Biver’s first chief executive in July 2024, joining the Swiss luxury-watch company from Phillips Perpetual. He is no longer Biver’s CEO: Biver’s current company page identifies co-founder Pierre Biver as CEO, and reports in 2026 say Marks left to lead Sotheby’s watch private sales and retail.
When did James Marks become Biver CEO?
Biver announced Marks’s appointment on July 12, 2024, calling him the company’s first CEO. The founders described the hire as part of a new phase for the independent watch brand. Jean-Claude Biver said Marks’s leadership and partnership with his son Pierre would support a “smooth, long-term, generational transition.” WATCHPRO USA’s contemporaneous report and JCK’s report covered the announcement.
In May 2025, Biver still identified Marks as CEO in its announcement of a Riyadh retail partnership, confirming he held the role at that point. That is historical confirmation, not evidence of his current position. Biver’s partnership announcement
Who is Biver’s CEO now?
Biver’s official Story page identifies Pierre Biver as CEO and co-founder. A May 2026 Forbes Switzerland interview says Pierre took the CEO role in January 2026 while continuing as creative director.

JCK reported on June 1, 2026, that Marks had left Biver after two years as CEO and joined Sotheby’s as global head of private sales and retail for its watch business. The available reporting and company page establish the change in leadership, but not an exact handover date or a separately published official Biver announcement of that handover. Who is James Marks?
Before joining Biver, Marks was deputy chairman for watches and international head at Phillips Perpetual. JCK’s 2024 report also described an earlier 17-year finance career that included Merrill Lynch, BNP Paribas and seven years as a commodity hedge-fund portfolio manager. The 2024 announcement said he would continue consulting for Phillips.

Marks said he was honored to join the venture and work with both Bivers to safeguard their legacy. His appointment was an executive role; it does not establish that he designed or made any particular Biver watch.

Biver is a luxury-watch brand founded by Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre. The company says the venture began in 2023 and describes its atelier in Givrins, Switzerland. Its official materials feature the Carillon Tourbillon and Automatique collections and emphasize handcrafted watchmaking.
