Jonathan Cohen sued James Bord in Clark County, Nevada, over an investment connected with Spanish football club Córdoba CF, according to a report published on 17 February 2026. The complaint reportedly alleges that Bord misrepresented the club’s finances and the terms or value of an investment arrangement. Those claims have not been established in court. Bord’s former Sheffield Wednesday takeover bid is a separate matter: his consortium withdrew in February 2026, and another group completed the purchase in May.

Why is James Bord being sued?

A 17 February 2026 report says Canadian poker player and former business partner Jonathan Cohen filed a complaint against Bord in Clark County, Nevada. The dispute concerns Cohen’s investment in Córdoba CF, a Spanish football club. The publication said it had reviewed court papers; the complaint itself and a current court docket were not independently available for verification.

As described in that report, Cohen alleges that Bord misled him about Córdoba’s financial position and the terms or value of their investment arrangement. The report also says Cohen sought relief related to a proposed “coupon” arrangement. These are allegations in a complaint, not findings of fact or a ruling by a court. Read the report on the lawsuit.

What the report says about Córdoba’s debt

The report says the complaint alleged that Córdoba had approximately $23 million in debt when Cohen invested. That figure is an allegation described by the publication, not an independently verified financial statement for the club. The report’s account of the complaint does not establish that the figure is accurate.

Who is Jonathan Cohen, and what has Bord said?

The report describes Cohen as a Canadian poker player and Bord’s former business partner. It attributes this response to a Bord spokesperson: “This is a deeply upsetting matter for James, who has over the past few years helped and supported Jonathan financially and personally, and has long considered him a friend.” The spokesperson added: “Due to this now being subject to legal proceedings in the US, we can offer no further comment.” The statements are reproduced as reported by the publication; the spokesperson’s original statement was not independently located.
