Yes. News4JAX reported on October 2, 2026, that the restaurant was permanently closed and had a door sign reading, “Unfortunately we have closed permanently.” The restaurant was still listed on Hooters’ company website that day, but a website listing does not show that it was still operating.
The location had also posted on Instagram about a new menu item on September 24. That post, four days before the dated public-health notice and eight days before the News4JAX report, does not establish when the restaurant actually closed.
When did Jacksonville’s Hooters close?
The final operating date has not been confirmed. News4JAX observed an orange public-health notice posted on the building and dated September 29, 2026, then reported the permanent closure on October 2. The local report did not provide the notice’s full text or identify the exact date the restaurant stopped operating.

The USA TODAY Network caption dates the restaurant to 1986. That supports describing its history as roughly 40 years by 2026, not claiming that it closed on the exact 40th anniversary of its opening.
Why did the Hooters on San Jose Boulevard close?
The available accounts do not establish a confirmed reason for the shutdown. News4JAX said the reason for the abrupt closure was unclear. Separately, a USA TODAY Network caption in a Reuters Connect listing reported that the restaurant closed permanently after a state health inspection cited dead roaches and rat droppings.

That caption is an attributed report, not the inspection record. The underlying official record and the full text of the September 29 notice were not verified in the sources reviewed, so the notice alone should not be treated as proof that the inspection caused the closure.

The sources describe the address differently. The USA TODAY Network caption places it at 8938 San Jose Blvd. by Goodbys Creek in Mandarin. News4JAX describes the lone location as being on San Jose Boulevard at Baymeadows Road. The reports do not reconcile those descriptions, so the precise address or intersection should be confirmed before relying on either wording.
