No reviewed source confirms that Zeekr, Geely’s premium electric brand, is launching cars for U.S. retail buyers this month or at any date. As of October 8, 2026, the most recent reporting documents a narrower U.S. connection: Zeekr-built vehicles being imported for Waymo’s robotaxi service. A separate report says Geely has not ruled out entering the U.S. market, with a decision expected within three years. Neither item is a consumer launch, so “coming to America” needs to be read in one of three distinct senses before the headline can be judged.
Three meanings of “coming to America”
The phrase covers three different situations, and only one of them is currently reported with any specificity.

The Waymo fleet report
The most concrete U.S. development is the robotaxi link. CleanTechnica’s report, titled “Chinese Cars Will Come To America Sooner Rather Than Later” and dated August 17, 2026, says Waymo is importing Zeekr Ojai minivans for use in its robotaxi service. Keep these points separate when you cite it:
- It is secondary reporting. It is not a Waymo or Zeekr press release in the material reviewed, so check the primary announcement before treating the details as settled.
- Robotaxi vehicles are operated by the service, not sold to individual owners. A fleet vehicle on U.S. streets does not mean a Zeekr can be bought in a U.S. showroom.
- The same report’s point about Geely’s possible future decision is a separate claim and should be attributed separately from the Waymo import.
What the 2023 MotorTrend review said
MotorTrend’s “2023 Zeekr 001 and 009 First Look Review” is the main earlier source on U.S. intentions. It reported that there were no confirmed plans to sell Zeekr’s own cars in the United States. It also described a Zeekr-designed mobility concept developed with Waymo, and said that vehicle might eventually appear on U.S. streets. That review is more than three years old as of this writing, so it describes the position at the time, not the current one. It is useful background for why the Waymo link drew attention, but it does not confirm a present U.S. lineup.

Zeekr’s range and global scale
Zeekr is part of Geely’s automotive group, alongside brands such as Polestar and Volvo, according to MotorTrend’s brand descriptions. Its two models most often cited in the reporting are:

On scale, Geely Auto’s 2026 first-half report states that Zeekr sold more than 178,000 vehicles in January to June 2026, about 12.5% of Geely Auto group sales volume. This is a company-reported global and group figure. It is not U.S. sales, and it says nothing about whether Zeekr sells in the United States.

The U.S. connected-vehicle rule
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s connected-vehicle final rule, published in the Federal Register, governs specified software, hardware, manufacturers and transactions connected to vehicles in the United States. Its provisions include applicability starting with model year 2027. The rule’s language is direct: the Bureau of Industry and Security states that “Connected vehicle manufacturers are prohibited from knowingly importing into the United States completed connected vehicles.” That prohibition sits inside a framework of covered software and conditions tied to the People’s Republic of China and Russia, and any quotation should carry that context.
The rule does not, on its own, decide whether a particular Zeekr vehicle can be sold or imported. That outcome depends on the specific vehicle, its software and hardware, the manufacturer involved and the transaction. Treating the rule as a blanket ban on Zeekr would go beyond what the text establishes.

How to check a “Zeekr is coming” claim
- Look for a named U.S. model, a dealer or sales channel, a price, or an on-sale date. If none appear, the story is describing intent or fleet use, not retail availability.
- Check whether the claim is attributed to a Zeekr or Geely statement. Secondary reporting that cites “a decision within three years” is not a launch announcement.
- Separate fleet news from consumer news. A robotaxi operator importing vehicles answers a different question from whether buyers can order one.
- Check the date. A report from August 17, 2026 cannot confirm a launch described as happening in a later month unless a newer primary source says so.
- For the regulatory question, read the Federal Register final rule directly and note its model-year 2027 applicability before drawing conclusions about a specific vehicle.
Until a direct company announcement names U.S. models, prices and a sales date, the defensible reading of the headline is that Zeekr’s U.S. presence so far is a robotaxi fleet connection, and a consumer launch remains unconfirmed.
