There is no verified evidence that Amancio Ortega or Elon Musk has secured La Ceja-Cañada Arena, an industrial site in Cheste, Spain, or that Ortega is personally trying to block Musk. A May 2025 report described competing plans for the site, but the available evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Inditex has documented plans for two logistics centers somewhere in the Valencian Community, while the Tesla factory proposal and the Cheste-specific Inditex plans remain claims in secondary coverage.
What is the reported contest about?
La Ceja-Cañada Arena is an industrial site in Cheste, in Spain’s Valencian Community. Indian Defence Review reported on May 5, 2025, that Tesla wanted to build a battery gigafactory there and that Inditex, the parent company of Zara, planned distribution centers for Bershka and Tempe at the same location. The report characterized the situation as a contest, but did not establish that either company made a formal bid, acquired land, or obtained approval. Indian Defence Review’s account is the source for the site-specific claims.

EDATV also reported plans for the Bershka and Tempe centers in Cheste, but that is secondary reporting rather than a company filing or planning record. Its article does not independently establish a land award or completed transaction.
What Inditex has confirmed—and what it has not
Inditex’s 2023 annual report, published in 2024, documents planned distribution centers in the Valencian Community: 116,000 m² for Bershka and 141,000 m² for Tempe. It does not identify Cheste as their location or connect the projects to Tesla. The report said most projects in its 2024–2025 logistics expansion would begin operating in the second half of 2025; that was a forecast, not confirmation that the facilities opened on schedule. That distinction matters: the regional projects are documented by Inditex, while the claim that these particular centers were intended for La Ceja-Cañada Arena comes from media reports. The annual report cannot be used as proof that Inditex sought or won the Cheste site.
What has been reported about Tesla?
Indian Defence Review said Tesla wanted a battery factory at the site and estimated the investment at €5 billion. That is the outlet’s estimate for a reported project—not a Tesla-confirmed budget or commitment. The article also suggested a Spanish factory could help Tesla avoid tariffs on batteries imported from China; that rationale likewise comes from the report, not a cited Tesla announcement.

The material available here does not establish a Tesla statement, local planning record, formal project proposal, or regulatory approval for a Cheste factory. No relevant public comment by Musk, Ortega, either company, or a local official is documented in the cited coverage. “Fighting for control” is the outlet’s narrative language, not a verified description or quotation from either party.

That remains unverified. Indian Defence Review said the outcome was uncertain when it published its story on May 5, 2025. The sources cited here do not establish whether a site award, sale, lease, permit, or construction decision followed. Without a confirmed transaction or planning record, it is not possible to say that either billionaire—or either company—secured the land.

- Score amazing savings on designer fashions for you, top-brand finds for your home, and everything you need for your outdoor adventures.
- With thousands of new arrivals across all five brands every week, the selection is ever-changing.

- Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
The most defensible reading is therefore a reported potential overlap between a manufacturing proposal and fashion-logistics expansion, not a proven personal feud. Establishing the outcome would require a direct company announcement or relevant land and planning records from Cheste or the Valencian authorities.
