The $250 contribution to a child’s Trump Account is funded by Michael and Susan Dell, not by the federal government. As Invest America reported on October 9, 2026, its ZIP-code allocation covered qualifying areas with median family income of $117,300 or less, using 2020–2024 American Community Survey five-year estimates. Check your ZIP code with Invest America’s eligibility checker, then check the child’s account: a qualifying ZIP code alone does not confirm that a particular child received the money.
What the $250 contribution is—and who it was intended for
Michael and Susan Dell committed $6.25 billion to provide $250 to Trump Accounts for 25 million children born from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2024. Invest America says the contribution was allocated using ZIP-code income data, beginning with the lowest-income ZIP codes and expanding until the program reached its target. The administrator reported that all deposits had been made as of October 9, 2026.

The ZIP-code test uses the area’s median family income, not your household’s income or your family’s individual income. Invest America’s reported cutoff was $117,300 or less, based on 2020–2024 American Community Survey five-year estimates. The cutoff and allocation status here reflect the administrator’s guidance as of October 9, 2026; use its checker for the result associated with your ZIP code.

How to check whether your child received the $250
- Check the ZIP code. Enter the relevant ZIP code in Invest America’s Dell $250 eligibility checker to see whether the area was included.
- Check the child’s account. Sign in to the child’s Trump Account and look for the contribution or available funds. Invest America directs families to the account to verify whether the money is there.
- Compare the child’s birth date and account circumstances. The Dell allocation was for children born in 2016–2024, and a ZIP-code result does not by itself establish that a particular child met all applicable child and account conditions.
If the ZIP checker indicates that an area qualified but you cannot find the contribution in the account, contact the account administrator or consult Invest America’s Trump Accounts and Dell contribution FAQ. The available guidance establishes the area-level allocation and says deposits were made; it does not provide a way to determine an individual child’s account status without checking that account.

How the Dell $250 differs from the federal $1,000 pilot contribution
The two contributions have different funders, birth-year windows, and eligibility tests. The Dell contribution was privately funded and allocated by ZIP code. The federal pilot contribution is a separate U.S. Treasury program; the IRS says it is $1,000 for eligible children born in 2025–2028. The IRS pilot rules do not identify a ZIP-code income condition.
| Feature | Dell-funded contribution | Federal pilot contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Amount and funder | $250 per eligible child; committed by Michael and Susan Dell | $1,000; federal pilot contribution through the U.S. Treasury |
| Birth years | 2016–2024 | 2025–2028 |
| Main eligibility distinction | ZIP-code median family income allocation, alongside applicable child and account conditions | U.S. citizenship, a valid Social Security number, no previously processed pilot election, and an election by an authorized individual who anticipates the child will be their qualifying child for the year |
| ZIP-code income test | $117,300 or less median family income, as Invest America reported on October 9, 2026 | No ZIP-code income condition identified in the IRS pilot rules |
The IRS says the $1,000 pilot contribution cannot be deposited before July 4, 2026. For the federal pilot’s full criteria, see the IRS and Treasury proposed-regulations announcement. A child having a Trump Account does not, by itself, mean the account received either contribution.

What having a Trump Account does—and does not—tell you
The IRS describes Trump Accounts as individual retirement accounts for eligible minors. An authorized individual may establish an account through IRS Individual Online Account and Form 4547, subject to the account rules. The general rules for opening an account and the narrower birth-year requirements for the federal pilot contribution are separate questions; consult the IRS Trump Accounts information and Form 4547 instructions for account and election details.

Those investment rules do not determine whether the Dell contribution was allocated to a child; checking eligibility does not require buying a particular investment. Why the checker result is not the final account confirmation
The checker answers an area-level question: whether a ZIP code was within the reported allocation. The deposit question is account-specific. Your child’s birth date and account status matter, and the guidance does not make a qualifying ZIP result proof of an individual deposit. Check the account itself to confirm the $250.
