Is Webull Safe to Use? How to Assess Its Security and Privacy Risks

Webull describes several protections for U.S. customers, but SIPC, excess SIPC, and FDIC coverage apply to different account types and balances. Learn what to check.

For U.S. self-directed securities customers, Webull describes the standard regulatory and custody protections expected of a brokerage, along with security controls and privacy practices. That does not make every Webull product or balance protected in the same way, guarantee an account cannot be compromised, or insure investments against market losses. To assess whether Webull fits your needs, identify the legal entity and account type, determine which protection applies to each balance, and review the broker’s security and privacy disclosures.

What “safe” means for a brokerage account

Broker safety has several separate dimensions: whether the firm and account are subject to U.S. regulatory oversight, what happens to eligible assets if a brokerage fails, how the firm reports protecting accounts and data, and what personal information it collects or shares. A positive answer on one dimension does not settle the others.

The disclosures discussed here are U.S.-focused and describe Webull’s statements as of 2026. Webull Financial LLC offers self-directed securities trading and says it is registered with the SEC and a member of FINRA and SIPC. Webull Futures LLC is identified separately for futures and cleared swaps. Check the entity and product named in your own account documents; protections for a securities brokerage account should not be assumed to apply to futures or other products. Webull disclosures link to official FINRA BrokerCheck and NFA resources for checking firm information. [c001]

Which protection applies to your money or investments?

SIPC, excess SIPC, and FDIC protection address different situations. The relevant one depends on what the balance is, how the account is registered, and whether you have enrolled in a particular program. None of these protections reimburses ordinary investment losses caused by market movement.

Protection What Webull says it covers Important limits
SIPC Eligible securities and cash in a covered brokerage account, up to $500,000 per covered account, including a $250,000 cash sublimit, according to Webull’s current FAQ and disclosures accessed in 2026. [c002] It addresses missing eligible assets if a SIPC-member brokerage fails; it does not cover a decline in the market value of investments. Coverage depends on SIPC rules and account registration. [c002]
Excess SIPC Webull describes different additional policies for certain clearing arrangements. For certain omnibus Apex accounts, it reports a $100 million aggregate limit and a $1,900,000 cash sublimit per customer. For fully disclosed accounts, it describes a $150 million aggregate additional policy limit, with maximum limits of $37.5 million for one customer’s securities and $900,000 for one customer’s cash. These are Webull-stated limits accessed in 2026. [c003] Aggregate policy limits are not individual guarantees. The applicable arrangement and customer-level limits matter; check Webull’s current explanation for your account. [c003]
FDIC coverage through Cash Management For eligible uninvested cash enrolled in Webull Cash Management and swept to partner banks, Webull says coverage may reach $5,000,000. Its current FAQ accessed in 2026 states a $250,000 per-bank limit. [c004] Coverage depends on enrollment and bank placement, and is subject to other deposits you hold at a partner bank in the same ownership capacity. Webull says cash not enrolled in the program is protected under SIPC only. [c004]

SIPC is not protection from investment losses

SIPC protection is associated with a brokerage failure and missing customer property—not the performance of a stock, fund, or other investment. If an investment falls in value, that market loss is not covered by SIPC. Webull also states that futures accounts are not SIPC-protected. Webull’s FAQ explains the company’s account-protection terms. [c002][c007]

Read excess coverage as a set of limits, not one headline number

Webull describes separate excess policies linked to different clearing arrangements. The large aggregate figures apply to a policy as a whole; they are not the amount each customer can claim. The customer-level securities and cash limits, as well as the account’s arrangement, determine what the stated policy may mean for you. Confirm the current terms that apply to your account rather than relying on the largest aggregate figure. [c003]

FDIC coverage requires an eligible bank sweep

A brokerage cash balance is not automatically an insured bank deposit. The $5 million maximum Webull describes applies to eligible uninvested cash enrolled in Cash Management and swept among partner banks, subject to the program’s bank-level limits and your other deposits. Check your enrollment and bank allocation in the current program terms; do not assume that cash outside the sweep receives FDIC coverage. [c004]

What Webull says it does to secure accounts and data

Webull’s Privacy & Security page describes annual independent SOC 2 audits, encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, backups, monitoring, vendor safeguards, and annual employee training. Webull says auditors found no exceptions for an audit period; that is the company’s description of that period, not a guarantee of future security or proof that an incident cannot occur. Webull’s Privacy & Security page describes these controls. [c005][c008]

Webull’s disclosure states: “While we employ robust security measures, no system is completely immune to cyberattacks.” The statement appears in Webull’s disclosures. It describes a general risk, not evidence of a specific breach. The materials cited here do not establish a Webull-specific breach statistic or a current incident finding from a regulator, so neither a claim that Webull has experienced a breach nor one that it has not should be inferred from these pages. [c007]

For your own assessment, look at the current login and recovery options, account alerts, and the process for reporting unauthorized activity. Webull’s organizational security description does not establish whether a particular hardware security key is supported. Do not assume a device or authentication method is compatible without checking current Webull account settings or support information. [c005]

What Webull’s privacy notice says about personal information

Security protections and privacy choices are different questions. Webull Financial LLC’s Regulation S-P Privacy Notice says it collects information when customers open an account, provide income details, make deposits or withdrawals, and through other sources. It also lists categories of sharing, including sharing with affiliates for business purposes and marketing, and describes a mechanism to limit certain sharing. Read Webull Financial’s Regulation S-P Privacy Notice for the current details. [c006]

Review the latest notice for the categories of information collected, the recipients or purposes listed, and any opt-outs or state-specific rights available to you. The choices and legal terms can vary by jurisdiction and may change; a short privacy summary is not a substitute for the applicable notice. [c006]

A practical way to check Webull before using it

  1. Confirm the entity and product. Check whether your account is for securities brokerage or futures, and identify the legal entity in your account documents. Use the official FINRA BrokerCheck or NFA resources linked from Webull’s disclosures to verify relevant firm information. [c001]
  2. Classify each balance. Separate securities, brokerage cash, futures assets, and any cash enrolled in Cash Management. Do not apply one protection label to all of them. [c002][c004][c007]
  3. Match the protection to the balance. Review SIPC eligibility and limits, the excess policy and clearing arrangement that apply to your account, or the Cash Management sweep terms and bank allocation. Consider other deposits you hold at the same partner bank and in the same ownership capacity. [c002][c003][c004]
  4. Inspect current security and recovery options. Review available login protections, account alerts, recovery procedures, and instructions for reporting suspicious or unauthorized activity. Confirm support for any specific authentication device before relying on it. [c005]
  5. Read the current privacy notice. Check what information Webull says it collects and shares, and which limitation options or state-specific rights apply to you. [c006]

How to interpret the answer

Webull’s U.S. disclosures identify a regulated securities brokerage, describe SIPC and excess SIPC arrangements for eligible securities accounts, and set out a conditional FDIC sweep program for enrolled cash. The company also reports security controls and provides a privacy notice. Those are relevant safeguards, but their scope depends on the account and balance, and they do not remove market, cyber, or privacy risks.
