What has been reported about Suri’s college costs
A report published by Hindustan Times on August 23, 2024 said Cruise was paying Suri’s college costs at Carnegie Mellon University. The report attributed that account to the Daily Mail and an unnamed friend; it was not a direct statement from Cruise and did not publish the settlement or a bill.
Hindustan Times relayed a reported tuition figure of $65,000 per year. That is an amount reported by the outlet, not an independently verified invoice or proof of a contractual obligation. It should not be treated as the total cost of attendance or as evidence that the same amount applies in later academic years.
What is known about medical expenses after age 18
The 2024 report described the settlement as covering expenses including medical, dental, insurance, education, college and extracurricular activities. But the underlying agreement was not reproduced, and that reported list does not establish which expenses continue after age 18, for how long, or under what conditions.

There is no verified public figure or confirmed duration for Suri’s post-18 medical expenses in the cited reporting. It therefore would be inaccurate to state as fact that Cruise agreed to pay them after she turned 18.
Why the settlement’s privacy matters
A contemporaneous Los Angeles Times report from July 9, 2012 described Cruise and Holmes’s divorce settlement as confidential. It reported that Holmes had primary custody and Cruise had visitation rights, citing sources familiar with the negotiations; it did not disclose a provision requiring post-18 medical payments.

The lawyers’ public statements at the time confirmed that the case had been settled, not the settlement’s expense terms. Holmes’s lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, said, “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed.” Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields, said Cruise was “really pleased we got there.” Neither statement identifies a college or medical-expense obligation.

Whether a parent must contribute to college costs after a child reaches adulthood can depend on the wording of a specific agreement and the law that applies. In L.D. v O.D., a 2024 New York family-court decision, the court considered the parties’ agreement when addressing whether college contributions continued after emancipation. That separate case does not establish what Cruise and Holmes agreed to or determine their obligations.

Ordinary child support, a private agreement to pay college costs, and a commitment to cover medical expenses are distinct issues. A report that lists several expense categories cannot by itself show that each one is legally required after age 18.

How to assess claims about the agreement
- Look for the agreement itself or direct confirmation. Neither is provided in the cited reports.
- Check who is making the claim. The college-payment account was attributed to an unnamed friend and another outlet, rather than to Cruise in a public statement.
- Separate the expense categories. A reported college payment does not confirm a medical-expense commitment or its duration.
- Keep reported figures in context. The $65,000-per-year tuition amount is a reported figure, not a disclosed settlement term or verified total bill.
