The $1,249 price refers to a specific 2024 14-inch MacBook Pro: base M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory, 512GB SSD, and reportedly Silver. That is $350 below its original U.S. $1,599 starting price, or about 21.9% off before tax. But the deal was reported on December 12, 2025; the available information does not establish that it is still available on October 8, 2026. Check the live listing and checkout total before treating $1,249 as a current offer.
What the $1,249 price covers
AppleInsider reported the offer on December 12, 2025, describing the Silver model with a base M4 chip, 16GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD at $1,249. Its report called that the lowest price it had observed at the time; it does not establish an all-time record or a live price today. AppleInsider’s deal report
Apple introduced the 2024 M4 MacBook Pro on October 30, 2024, with availability beginning November 8. The base 14-inch model launched in the U.S. at $1,599. Against that launch price, $1,249 is a nominal $350 reduction, approximately 21.9% before tax. That comparison is to original U.S. list pricing, not necessarily the retailer’s current regular price. Apple’s launch announcement
The reported deal is not for every 14-inch MacBook Pro. It is not an M4 Pro or M4 Max configuration, and higher-memory or larger-storage versions may cost more. The listing’s current seller, condition, color availability, model number, warranty, shipping charge, and any coupon or membership requirement are not established by the dated deal report. Confirm them on the retailer page before buying.

Is $1,249 a good price?
If the laptop is new, the seller is reputable, and checkout really shows $1,249 without a paid-membership or trade-in condition, it is a compelling price for a Pro laptop with an XDR display, 120Hz refresh rate, and a broad selection of built-in ports. It is less attractive if the unit is refurbished or open-box, the seller is an unfamiliar marketplace vendor, or a newer MacBook Pro is close in price. Compare the final price of the exact configuration you want, not just the headline number.
Keep the advertised discount separate from other ways to reduce the cost. Trade-in value depends on the device and its assessment, cashback may have conditions, and education pricing or a coupon may not apply to every buyer. None should be counted as part of the reported $350 reduction unless the retailer explicitly includes it in the displayed price. Apple’s trade-in page explains that program separately: Apple Trade In.
What you get in the 2024 M4 model
The display is a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR panel with 3024-by-1964 resolution, 254 pixels per inch, wide P3 color, True Tone, a stated 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. Those features can matter for photo and video work, but the display alone may not justify the Pro’s price and weight for someone who mainly browses or writes.
The base M4 has a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The machine also has a 12MP Center Stage camera. Apple lists three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, and MagSafe 3 charging. For the full technical specification, see Apple’s 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro specifications.

Apple rates the model for up to 24 hours of video streaming and up to 16 hours of wireless web use. These are Apple’s maximum figures under its test conditions, not a promise of everyday runtime; actual battery life varies with workload, settings, and configuration. The laptop supports Apple Intelligence, but feature availability can depend on macOS version, language, region, and rollout. Do not assume every feature is available to every user.
Check memory and storage before you buy
The reported configuration has 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD. Memory is integrated and cannot be upgraded later, so consider workloads such as virtual machines, large software builds, advanced 3D work, or substantial local AI tasks before settling on the base amount. Storage needs depend on your files and workflow: external drives can add capacity, but they do not add unified memory and may be less convenient than internal storage.
If you regularly work with large media libraries or projects, price a higher-capacity configuration against the cost and inconvenience of external storage. Apple’s specifications show that other configurations exist, but the $1,249 report does not establish their current prices or availability.
Who should consider this MacBook Pro?
- Video editors, photographers, and designers: The XDR display, P3 color, SDXC slot, HDMI, and M4 media capabilities may fit workflows that benefit from them.
- Developers and technical professionals: The M4 performance, port selection, and battery capacity can suit demanding work, provided 16GB memory is adequate for the software and projects involved.
- People who connect equipment often: HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe, and three Thunderbolt ports can reduce reliance on adapters compared with a more limited-port laptop.
- Buyers seeking a premium Mac without paying for an M4 Pro tier: The base M4 model may be sufficient when the Pro display and features matter more than maximum CPU or GPU performance.
When a MacBook Air or another option makes more sense
If your typical day is documents, web browsing, video calls, streaming, schoolwork, or light creative tasks, compare a MacBook Air before paying for the Pro display and ports. Air models are aimed at buyers who prioritize lower weight and cost; whether the current Air is a better deal depends on its live price and the memory and storage configuration being compared. How to verify the offer before paying
- Open the retailer’s product page and make sure the model is the 14-inch 2024 MacBook Pro with base M4, 16GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD—not an M4 Pro model or a different configuration.
- Confirm the condition is explicitly listed as new if that is what you expect, and check the color and model number or SKU.
- Check who is selling the item. A marketplace listing may have different return terms, warranty handling, and fulfillment from the retailer’s own stock.
- Review the final checkout price for tax, shipping, coupon requirements, membership restrictions, or a price that depends on trade-in or another condition.
- Read the return deadline and warranty terms. AppleCare+ is optional coverage, not automatically included; review its current terms separately if you are considering it. AppleCare+ for Mac.
Buy now, wait, or skip?
Buy at $1,249 if you verify a new unit with the reported 16GB/512GB configuration from a seller whose return and warranty terms you accept, and you will use the Pro display, ports, or sustained performance. Compare alternatives first if a newer Pro is only modestly more expensive or an Air covers your needs for less. Skip the deal if the listing’s condition or seller is unclear, the checkout price is no longer $1,249, or 16GB memory and 512GB storage are poor fits for your work.
