The airline’s flight-deals page showed a separate offer of up to 40% off base fares for select flights, bookable by October 8, 2026, for travel from October 26, 2026, through March 3, 2027. Because sale terms change, check Southwest’s live deals and your specific itinerary before booking.
What happened to Southwest’s 50% anniversary sale?
Southwest’s 50th-anniversary promotion offered 50% off base fares in 2021. It required promo code SAVE50 and applied only within the promotion’s booking and travel periods. The offer was limited to new reservations and included fare-type and booking-channel exclusions. Its code and dates are historical, not instructions for a booking now. Southwest’s 2021 announcement contains the original offer details.
Southwest also advertised up to 50% off base fares during an anniversary-week sale in 2024, for specified travel periods. That was another distinct, expired promotion—not evidence that a 50% anniversary discount is ongoing. Southwest’s 2024 announcement documents that sale.
What Southwest deal was listed for October 2026?
Southwest’s flight-deals page showed a separate promotion for up to 40% off base fares on select flights: book by October 8, 2026, for travel October 26, 2026, through March 3, 2027. The offer is not the old anniversary sale, and the stated maximum does not mean every fare or itinerary receives that discount. Check the live offer’s terms and search your route to see whether a qualifying fare is available. Southwest flight deals and offers

How to check whether your trip qualifies
- Open Southwest’s Flight Deals and Offers page and review the current promotion’s booking deadline, travel dates, eligible routes, and other terms.
- Search your origin and destination for your intended dates. A sale fare may not be offered on every route, flight, or day, and available fares can sell out.
- Use Southwest’s Low Fare Calendar to compare dates in your market if your travel schedule is flexible.
- Before paying, confirm the fare and any required promo code appear as expected, and review the final price and offer conditions. Southwest’s promo-code guidance explains that codes have offer-specific terms and expiration dates.
What “50% off” does—and does not—mean
The 2021 promotion applied its discount to base fare, not necessarily the full trip cost. Its restrictions also meant that a headline percentage did not guarantee eligibility for every passenger, fare, route, or booking channel. Treat any percentage advertised in a future sale the same way: read that offer’s terms rather than assuming the discount applies to the total checkout price. The historical 2021 terms illustrate why the promotion-specific details matter.

Check the current offer’s terms and compare the actual available fare before cancelling or changing an existing trip. Sale inventory can change, and the advertised offer may not apply to your itinerary. Do not assume a historical code or anniversary promotion can be applied retroactively.
