Yes—Roblox’s official guidance says not to trade virtual items for real money outside Roblox. That does not rule out every way to earn money connected to Roblox: eligible Limited and Limited U items can be resold inside Roblox for Robux, and some creators can qualify to cash out eligible Earned Robux through Roblox’s Developer Exchange program. Those routes have separate rules and are not permission to privately sell another player’s item for cash.
Is selling Roblox items for real money against the Terms of Service?
Roblox Support’s Trading on Roblox guidance says: “Only trade using the official Trade feature. Never agree to deals where you send first and ‘trust’ the other player, and never trade for real money, accounts, or items outside Roblox.” In practical terms, an arrangement to transfer a Roblox item to another user in exchange for cash outside Roblox conflicts with the platform’s stated trading guidance.
Roblox also says it cannot return items or Robux lost in deals made outside its official trading system. This describes Roblox’s platform rules and protections; it does not determine whether a particular transaction violates local law.

Can you sell Roblox items for real money?
Not through a private off-platform deal under Roblox’s stated trading guidance. The key distinction is not simply whether money is involved; it is what is being sold and whether the transaction uses a Roblox-authorized route. Roblox’s official resale system lets users list eligible Limited and Limited U items for Robux, not cash paid privately by another user.

Official resale of Limited items
Roblox’s item resale instructions cover owned Limited and Limited U items sold through Roblox for Robux. The current help page lists an active Roblox Plus subscription and a hold of up to 30 days before resale. It also says users in Japan may resell only Limited items originally made by Roblox, and resale is unavailable to users in South Korea. Requirements and availability can change, so check the current instructions for your account and region.
Creator earnings are not private item sales
Roblox’s Terms distinguish Earned Robux generated by compliant monetization of content a creator made from Robux acquired through purchase, membership grants, referral, or trading and resale of virtual products. Those distinctions matter: earning from your own eligible creation under Roblox’s programs is not the same as selling another user’s virtual item for cash.

Can I trade Roblox items for cash?
Roblox’s guidance says not to trade for real money or items outside Roblox. It specifically warns against sending an item first based on another player’s promise to pay later. If a deal requires moving an item or account outside Roblox’s official systems, Roblox says it cannot return losses from the transaction.
For item-for-item exchanges, use the official Trade feature where available and follow its requirements. Avoid treating a third-party marketplace, intermediary, or seller as Roblox-approved unless Roblox itself identifies it as an official system.

Can you cash out Robux?
Some creators may qualify for the Developer Exchange (DevEx), which can provide money for qualifying Earned Robux under separate program terms. It is not a general mechanism for converting any Robux balance into cash. Roblox’s DevEx terms make participation subject to eligibility, program requirements, policies, and limitations. The Roblox Terms of Use distinguish qualifying creator earnings from purchased Robux and proceeds from trading or reselling virtual products.
Roblox’s terms page for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland says Robux has no equivalent fiat or cash value in those regions and restricts resale or sale on secondary markets subject to stated exceptions. That is regional terms language, not a substitute for the agreement that applies to every user; check the terms for your region.

What about selling assets through the Creator Store?
The Creator Store is a separate route for eligible creator assets intended for Roblox Studio. Its terms permit certain fiat transactions but expressly distinguish Studio assets from avatar Virtual Items, In-Experience Items, experience access, and other UGC intended for use outside Studio. It should not be treated as a way to list ordinary Roblox avatar items or in-experience items for cash.
