No—not as a whole. The insolvency filing reported in 2024 involved RECARO Automotive GmbH in Germany, not every company or division using the RECARO name. RECARO Automotive later announced a takeover by Proma Group and continued operating activity. The distinction matters if you are checking the status of a specific seat, order, warranty, or local support service.
What happened to RECARO Automotive?
On July 30, 2024, RECARO Automotive said its German company, RECARO Automotive GmbH, had filed for insolvency with the Local Court of Esslingen. The company cited sharply higher costs, the loss of a major contract, legacy products and business operations, and lower regional vehicle spending. It said preliminary self-administration had been approved on July 29 and that it planned to maintain production and fulfill orders and new inquiries during the proceedings. That was the company’s stated plan at the time, not independent confirmation of every subsequent delivery. RECARO Automotive’s July 2024 announcement.
In October 2024, RECARO Automotive clarified that the proceedings applied exclusively to the German GmbH. It said the relationship with RECARO Holding was based on licensing and that Holding had no stake in the automotive company. In its statement, RECARO Automotive said: “RECARO Automotive is still in business.” RECARO Automotive’s October 2024 clarification.
What changed after the filing?
Proma Group announced a takeover
On December 4, 2024, RECARO Automotive announced that Proma Group had signed an investment agreement to take over the German business. The announcement said operations would continue, with a European relaunch planned for January 2025. It also described plans for aftermarket seats to be available and OEM production to transfer to Italy. Later activity was reported in 2026
In an August 4, 2026 announcement, RECARO Automotive described a commercial-vehicle seating collaboration with United Safety & Survivability Corporation for North America and Oceania. The release says RECARO Automotive had been part of Proma Group since January 2025. CEO Luca Pino said, “I am very proud to partner with United Safety on the commercial vehicle seating in North America and Oceania”. This is evidence of later announced business activity, not a guarantee about every product or market. RECARO Automotive’s August 2026 announcement.
RECARO is not one business
The RECARO name covers distinct businesses. RECARO Automotive’s October 2024 clarification said its German insolvency proceedings did not apply to other automotive and commercial-vehicle entities in North America or Japan, Chinese joint ventures, or RECARO Aircraft Seating, Gaming, and Rail. Those distinctions mean the German filing should not be described as the entire RECARO brand going out of business.

RECARO Holding reported €723 million in total revenue and an almost €3 billion orderbook for 2025 in a March 19, 2026 results release. It also reported nearly 120,000 passenger seats produced by RECARO Aircraft Seating in 2025, nearly 3,400 employees worldwide, and 250 hires globally in the prior year, including 150 at the aircraft-seating headquarters. These are company-reported figures for the wider Holding and its aircraft-seating business; they are not financial results, sales, or production figures for RECARO Automotive GmbH. - For an existing order, warranty question, or replacement part, contact the seller or authorized support channel for your country and ask about the specific model and purchase.
- For a replacement or retrofit seat, confirm vehicle fitment, the approved baseframe and mounting hardware, belt or restraint compatibility, and whether the exact configuration is legal for road use in your jurisdiction.
- For example, RECARO’s product page lists the Podium CF as a retrofit shell seat for road and track use, but says approval and certification depend on configuration and vehicle. Do not assume that a seat’s listing as road- and track-use makes every installation road-legal, or that a product page confirms current stock or support in your region.
