No official source checked confirms that Portugal issued a €7 coin honouring Cristiano Ronaldo. That does not prove that no unofficial novelty or collectible exists. The key distinction is that commemorative euro coins intended for circulation use the €2 denomination, while Portugal also issues collector coins under a separate legal framework.
Did Portugal make a €7 coin for Cristiano Ronaldo?
The claim is unsubstantiated by the official sources checked. Portugal’s Treasury and Finance Entity (Entidade do Tesouro e Finanças, ETF) describes the country’s coin-issuance framework, and the European Commission explains the rules for euro commemorative coins. Neither confirms a Portuguese €7 Ronaldo issue. A private seller could offer an unofficial novelty or collectible, but that would not establish it as an official Portuguese coin.
For an official issue, look for a matching notice in Portugal’s official publications or a listing from ETF or Imprensa Nacional–Casa da Moeda (INCM). A social-media post or sales listing alone is not evidence of official issuance.
Why the €2 denomination matters
The European Commission says euro-area countries may issue commemorative coins for circulation to mark major national or European events and subjects. These coins are €2 coins: they retain the features and properties of regular €2 coins, have a special design on the national side, and are legal tender throughout the euro area. Circulating commemoratives and collector coins are different
Portugal distinguishes circulating coins from collector coins. The latter are issued for numismatic purposes and, according to ETF, have legal-tender status only in Portugal. That category should not be confused with a €2 commemorative coin intended for circulation throughout the euro area.

Can you spend a Portuguese commemorative or collector coin?
A commemorative €2 coin intended for circulation is legal tender throughout the euro area. Portuguese collector coins have legal tender only in Portugal, so their status does not make them ordinary euro-area circulating commemoratives.

ETF also explains that, in a single payment, people other than the state, Banco de Portugal, and credit institutions are not obliged to accept more than 50 circulating coins. The same acceptance limit applies to collector coins. This is a limit on the number of coins a recipient must accept, not a statement that a coin is counterfeit or lacks legal-tender status.

A coin’s face value is its stated denomination. A seller’s asking price or a collector-market valuation is a separate matter. The official sources cited here establish coin categories and legal-tender rules; they do not establish the market value of an alleged Ronaldo €7 object. Without an official issue identification and issue-specific evidence, a listing price cannot verify the claim.
