Nintendo’s official support page lists the Switch 2 GameCube Controller for purchase, but the sources available here do not confirm live inventory or successful checkout. Check the Nintendo Store page for your country and account before treating it as in stock. Nintendo says eligible U.S. and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members can buy one, subject to a one-per-account limit.
What the controller is—and what comes in the box
Nintendo describes this as a recreation of the original GameCube controller, intended for the GameCube – Nintendo Classics game library on Nintendo Switch 2. The single-pack includes one controller and one USB charging cable. Nintendo’s product page notes that availability varies by country: Nintendo Store product listing.
Who can buy it, and what it costs
Nintendo’s support FAQ says customers in the United States and Canada with a paid Nintendo Switch Online or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership may purchase the controller through Nintendo Store. A free trial does not qualify. The FAQ lists a maximum of one per Nintendo Account and describes the controllers as not a limited-time offer. Its stated prices are $64.99 USD per controller in the U.S. and $84.99 CAD per controller in Canada, before shipping and tax; check the regional store for current terms because prices and purchase limits can change. These are separate purchases and requirements: a paid standard Nintendo Switch Online membership is enough to qualify to buy the controller, but access to the GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Buying the controller does not include that library subscription.

How to check whether it is actually in stock
- Open the Nintendo Store product listing for your country and sign in to the Nintendo Account you plan to use.
- Check whether the page offers an Add to Cart option and whether checkout accepts the order. A product appearing on the page alone does not establish that it can be purchased.
- If there is no Add to Cart button, Nintendo says an item may be out of stock. Membership eligibility or the one-per-account limit can also affect an order, so check those conditions before concluding the item is unavailable. Because Nintendo’s general cart guidance does not establish this controller’s current stock, availability should be confirmed on the live regional listing at the time you order.
Will it work with your console and games?
Nintendo says this controller can only be used with Nintendo Switch 2; it is not described as compatible with the original Nintendo Switch. Its intended use is the GameCube – Nintendo Classics library. Nintendo cautions that some other games may have issues because this controller lacks buttons and features found on other Switch 2-compatible controllers. Do not assume it is a general-purpose controller for every Switch 2 game.

Already own a GameCube controller? Consider the adapter
Nintendo lists the separate Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter as compatible with Switch 2. In TV mode, connect the adapter to a USB port on the dock. This can be an alternative for someone who already owns compatible GameCube controllers; it is a different accessory and setup from the Switch 2-specific wireless controller. Nintendo’s compatibility information is at Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 accessory compatibility page. The source establishes adapter compatibility in TV mode, not a broader compatibility guarantee for every game or setup.
