“Torn” sold more than a million copies in the UK, but that success does not reveal Natalie Imbruglia’s personal royalties or current fortune.

There is no public evidence establishing how much Natalie Imbruglia earns from “Torn” today—or what her current net worth is. The song was a major UK hit, and Imbruglia has said its success let her be generous to her family, but neither fact reveals her personal royalties or present finances. Calling it her “one hit wonder” also leaves out later chart successes and her continuing music releases.

What the public record says about “Torn”

“Torn” was a substantial commercial success in the UK. Official Charts reports that it peaked at number two, spent 11 weeks in the Top 10, and sold more than one million copies there. Those figures describe the song’s UK chart and sales history; they do not show how much Imbruglia personally received. Official Charts’ Natalie Imbruglia interview and chart information recounts the song’s success.

In that interview, Imbruglia said: “The song has only bought joy and happiness to my life, and allowed me to be very generous to my family.” It is a meaningful account of what the hit meant to her, but it is not a royalty statement and gives no amount or indication of her current income.

Why the hit’s success cannot establish her earnings

Sales and chart position do not translate directly into an artist’s personal take-home income. “Torn” was written by Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Phil Thornalley; songwriting and publishing income is distinct from income a recording artist may receive under a recording contract. The reviewed sources do not disclose Imbruglia’s contract terms, ownership interests, royalty statements, or personal share of revenue from the song. Songwriting Magazine’s interview with Phil Thornalley discusses the song’s authorship and recording context, but does not establish Imbruglia’s earnings.

For the same reason, multiplying sales or streams by a generic royalty rate would not produce a defensible estimate. Without details of rights, agreements, deductions, and the revenue involved, any such calculation would be speculation.

Is she really a one-hit wonder?

“One-hit wonder” is an incomplete description of Imbruglia’s chart history. The Independent reports that “Big Mistake” reached number two in the UK and that her album Counting Down the Days debuted at number one there. The label may capture how some people associate her with “Torn,” but it should not be mistaken for a complete record of her chart success. The Independent’s 2022 interview and report covers those later results and her experience with the label.

What is known about her finances now?

No reviewed source establishes Imbruglia’s current net worth or current income from “Torn.” ScopePress notes that no official net-worth figure is available and characterizes figures circulated online as unverified. That is a reason not to repeat those estimates as fact, not proof of every detail of her private finances. ScopePress’s discussion of Imbruglia’s finances makes that distinction relevant.

A 2026 report in The Independent recounts Imbruglia’s account of financial struggles after she moved to the UK early in her career. That is historical context, not evidence of her finances today. The Independent’s report on her early-career recollection describes that period.

Her career is still active

Imbruglia’s official website promotes Algorithm and the single “Upside Down,” along with an album release date of September 4. That shows current release activity, not how much she earns from either the new material or “Torn.” Release dates and promotions can change, so consult her official website for the latest status.
