Re:

Is It Too Late to Buy Palantir Stock? A Valuation-First Answer

Palantir’s rapid reported growth is a bullish signal, not a guarantee that its stock is attractively priced. Weigh current valuation against execution, competition and your time horizon.

Not necessarily—but Palantir’s strong growth does not, on its own, make the stock a good buy at any price. The key question is whether future growth can justify the expectations already reflected in the share price, and whether you can tolerate the risks if growth slows or execution disappoints.

What the latest reported market snapshot says—and what it doesn’t

In a report published October 10, 2026, Cinco Días said Palantir shares had risen about 5% to above $209, reached a record high, and put the company’s market capitalization above $502 billion. The report also put second-quarter 2026 revenue at $1.94 billion, up 93% year over year. These are figures reported for that date, not a live quote or a current valuation multiple.

The latest earnings event listed on Palantir’s investor-relations site was for August 3, 2026, with the company’s release, quarterly report, presentation, webcast, and CEO letter among the available materials. For a decision made today, use current market data and those latest company filings rather than relying on a dated share price or older forecasts.

The case for buying Palantir

Revenue growth is the central bullish evidence

The reported 93% year-over-year revenue increase in Q2 2026 is a substantial growth signal. If Palantir can sustain strong demand and turn it into durable revenue and earnings growth, investors may consider a premium valuation reasonable. But a single quarter cannot establish that the same growth rate will continue.

Management has described an ambitious growth outlook

In its February 2, 2026 Q4 release, Palantir forecast full-year 2026 revenue of $7.182–$7.198 billion and U.S. commercial revenue growth of at least 115%. Those were management forecasts issued before the Q1 and Q2 results, so treat them as historical guidance, not as the latest outlook. Check the later earnings materials for any updated forecast and compare actual results with what management expected.

The same release said the company’s Rule of 40 score was 127%. Palantir defines this measure as revenue growth plus adjusted operating margin; it is a company-reported non-GAAP measure, not a substitute for GAAP results or an independent forecast. The release notes that non-GAAP measures exclude some expenses, including stock-based compensation and related payroll taxes, and should be considered alongside—not instead of or in isolation from—GAAP measures.

Why a fast-growing company can still be an expensive stock

A stock’s return depends not only on whether the business grows, but also on how much growth investors already expect and what price they pay for it. If results fall short of lofty expectations, the share price can decline even while revenue continues to rise.

A June 21, 2026 analysis by Keithen Drury at The Motley Fool described Palantir as trading at nearly 90 times forward earnings at that time and argued that the valuation already required substantial growth. That is dated commentary, not a current multiple, consensus estimate, or company forecast. Do not use it as though it were today’s valuation; check current price and earnings estimates, and understand the assumptions behind them.

For context, the Q4 2025 release’s full-year 2026 revenue forecast was issued on February 2, 2026, before the later quarterly results. It may have been revised. Comparing that earlier forecast with subsequent reported results can help show how expectations evolve, but it does not establish what the stock is worth today.

Risks that could weaken the investment case

Growth and execution are not guaranteed

Palantir’s Q4 2025 release identifies risks including executing its strategy, customer demand, acquiring and expanding customer relationships, long and unpredictable sales cycles, and complex implementations. These factors can affect how quickly potential demand becomes recognized revenue.

Competition and external conditions can change the outlook

The June 2026 Motley Fool analysis also raised competition from other AI products as a concern. Palantir’s Q4 release lists macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions, AI-related issues, and data breaches among its risk factors. The existence of demand for AI products does not guarantee that Palantir will retain customers or win enough business to meet market expectations.

Contract-value measures are not guaranteed revenue

Palantir says its total contract value (TCV), annual contract value (ACV), and remaining deal value (RDV) generally assume that customer options are exercised and contracts are not terminated. The company also says most contracts include termination provisions, including termination for convenience. Treat these figures as measures with assumptions, not as guaranteed future revenue.

How to decide whether the stock fits your situation

There is no source-supported universal entry price, allocation, or holding period that makes Palantir right for every investor. Before buying, consider these questions together:

  • Growth: Are the latest reported results and current management guidance consistent with the growth you think the business can sustain?
  • Valuation: What earnings or cash-flow assumptions are embedded in the current price, and what happens to your thesis if growth slows?
  • Demand and competition: What evidence would show that customer interest is translating into durable business rather than short-lived enthusiasm?
  • Execution: Can the company acquire and expand customers, manage lengthy sales cycles, and implement its platform effectively?
  • Contract quality: Are you distinguishing potential contract value from revenue that is certain to be recognized?
  • Investor fit: Could you tolerate a sharp decline without abandoning your plan, and does the investment horizon match the time needed for your thesis to play out?

A long time horizon may help an investor live through volatility, but it does not make an expensive purchase automatically safe. If the thesis depends on growth staying exceptionally high, decide in advance what results would cause you to reassess it.
