Is Google One AI Premium Still Free for College Students? Current Offer Terms

Google’s current student offer provides 12 months of subscription benefits at no charge, but eligibility, the included plan and post-offer price depend on your location and account.

Yes—Google’s student offer is still available under its current terms, but the old “until Spring 2026” deadline is no longer current. Google says eligible students must redeem the offer by December 31, 2026 to receive 12 months of subscription benefits at no charge. The plan included depends on the country or region of the eligible institution, so “AI Premium” is not a universal plan name or feature promise.

What changed from the Spring 2026 deadline?

Google’s current Google AI Plan Membership Student Offer Terms, last updated August 19, 2026, set December 31, 2026 as the redemption deadline. An earlier version of the offer terms, last updated January 12, 2026, set a deadline of April 30, 2026. That earlier deadline explains older Spring 2026 headlines; it does not describe the current terms.

Offer terms version Last updated Redemption deadline Free period
Earlier terms (Google One offer terms) January 12, 2026 April 30, 2026 12 months from redemption
Current terms (Google AI Plan Membership Student Offer Terms) August 19, 2026 December 31, 2026 12 months from redemption

These are different iterations of Google’s offer, not evidence that every student or location has identical access. The current terms call it the “Google One Student Offer” and say the included Google AI plan depends on the country or region of the eligible institution. Check the plan and benefits shown during signup rather than assuming that every student receives a plan called AI Premium.

Who can qualify for the student offer?

Google’s current terms require all of the following:

  • You have a Google Payments account and provide a qualifying payment method at signup.

The terms also exclude people in a family group, enterprise purchasers, subscribers receiving a discounted Pixel bundle, and people subscribed to Google One through certain third parties or affiliates, including Google Fi. Supervised Google Accounts are excluded as well. Eligibility is therefore more specific than simply being a college student.

How long is it free, and what happens afterward?

The no-charge period lasts 12 months from the date you redeem the offer—not from the end of a school term or a single universal calendar date. The December 31, 2026 deadline is the last date to redeem under the current terms; a student who redeems earlier begins the 12-month period earlier.

Google requires a payment method at signup. Unless applicable law requires consent, its terms allow Google to begin charging the standard monthly subscription price for the applicable plan and country when the offer period ends, continuing until cancellation. Google says to cancel before the offer period ends to avoid that charge. The terms do not establish one post-offer price for all countries, so review the amount displayed for your account and location.

How to redeem and avoid an unwanted charge

  1. Sign in with your personal Google Account and open Google’s current student offer page.
  2. Confirm that the plan and offer shown are available for your institution’s country or region.
  3. Complete student verification through SheerID and provide a qualifying payment method through Google Payments if prompted.
  4. Note the redemption date and the offer’s end date. Set a reminder well before the end of the 12-month period if you do not want the subscription to continue at the standard local monthly price.
  5. If you do not want paid renewal, cancel before the offer period ends. Google says you can cancel at any time; cancellation during the free period may leave membership active until that period expires.

Usage limits may differ

Google warns that limits on use of features under the student offer may differ from those for paid members and may change without notice, including because of capacity constraints. Do not assume that the offer carries the same usage limits as a paid plan.

Storage can become a practical issue

If you cancel while your Google Account uses more storage than its limit, Google says you will need to delete files or purchase a membership. Until you resolve the excess, you will be unable to store anything new. Check your account’s storage use before ending the membership if the offer has increased the storage available to you.
