The clearest public rupture between Elon Musk and Donald Trump came in June 2025, after Musk left his administration role. But the title’s suggestion that Musk is “now actively raging” is not established by the available reporting: in 2026, Musk expressed regret about some posts and renewed contact with Trump was reported. The record shows a sharp, dated dispute—not proof of uninterrupted hostility today.

How the alliance turned into a public dispute

May 2025: Musk leaves his administration role

Musk left his official administration role in late May 2025. At a White House news conference on May 30 marking his departure, Trump called Musk “my friend” and praised his work as a senior adviser. That public show of goodwill captures the relationship at that moment; it does not establish what followed.

The White House transcript records Trump’s remarks. In June, as the dispute escalated, Trump told reporters: “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” according to The Washington Post’s timeline.

June 2025: Musk attacks Trump’s bill

In early June, Musk criticized Trump’s tax and spending bill on X and called for Trump’s impeachment. The bill became the central public issue in their dispute. Musk’s criticism was a political attack on the administration’s agenda, not evidence by itself that every disagreement between the two men had become permanent.

Musk also made an accusation linking Trump to the Epstein files. The Associated Press later described that claim as made without evidence. It should be treated as Musk’s allegation, not as an established fact. Axios reported the accusation, and the Associated Press addressed its lack of supporting evidence.

What else did Trump say was behind the fight?

Trump cited Musk’s opposition to cuts to electric-vehicle subsidies and the withdrawal of Jared Isaacman’s NASA nomination as additional sources of tension, according to The Washington Post’s timeline. Those are Trump’s stated explanations; they are not independently established motives. The same timeline says Trump threatened subsidies and government contracts involving Musk’s companies.

That distinction matters: the public record identifies the bill as a prominent point of conflict and documents other explanations Trump offered, but it does not establish a definitive private account of why the relationship broke down.

Did Musk later walk back his attacks?

In a July 2026 interview with The Economist, Musk reflected on his relationship with Trump: “I got carried away, frankly,” The Guardian reported. The Guardian said Musk did not elaborate on that remark. On DOGE, he added: “I think instead of doing Doge, I would have basically worked on my companies.”

Separately, an Associated Press report in May 2026 said Musk regretted some of his posts about Trump, had refocused on his companies, and traveled to China with Trump aboard Air Force One. That later contact complicates the picture of a continuous feud, but it does not prove that the two had resolved every disagreement.

Are Musk and Trump still feuding?

The reporting establishes a public rupture in June 2025, later regret from Musk about some posts, and renewed contact reported in 2026. It does not establish whether Musk made a new direct attack after his July 2026 interview or settle the precise state of their relationship today. The most accurate answer is therefore narrower than the headline: Musk did publicly attack Trump and his agenda, but the available reporting does not verify that he is still actively doing so.
