Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Usually, Windows users should skip Avast Cleanup Premium unless they specifically value automated maintenance, broader storage management, or a single dashboard for several devices. Windows already includes free tools for temporary files, storage recommendations, startup apps, and unused programs. Avast’s strongest case is convenience—not a dramatic upgrade to your computer’s CPU, memory, or hardware performance.
The answer changes by platform. Avast can be more useful on a cluttered Mac or Android phone, and its 10-device plan may make sense for a household that will actually use several covered devices. But the introductory price is much lower than the listed renewal price, so judge the subscription by what you would pay every year after the first one.

What Avast Cleanup Premium is—and what it is not
Avast Cleanup Premium is a device-cleaning and optimization product. Depending on the platform and version, it can identify temporary files, browser data, large or duplicate files, unwanted applications, application leftovers, and other storage clutter. It may also offer automatic maintenance, cloud-file cleanup, bloatware detection, and disk-related optimization.
It is not a replacement for antivirus software, a larger SSD, additional RAM, hardware repair, or Windows troubleshooting. A cleanup tool may help when a drive is nearly full or too many programs launch at startup, but it cannot turn an old processor into a new one or repair a failing drive. For malware protection, use a dedicated security product such as Windows Security.

Current price: the first year is not the whole calculation
Avast’s U.S. pages have shown different prices depending on the storefront and promotion. At the time covered by the available pricing information, the observed ranges were:
| Plan | First-year price observed | Listed renewal price | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-device plan | About $29.88–$32.99 | $65.99 per year | One supported Windows PC or, in some storefronts, one Mac |
| 10-device plan | About $34.68–$34.99 | $79.99 per year | Supported Windows, Mac, Android, and related devices |
These are not permanently fixed prices. Promotions, geography, platform, storefront, and checkout state can change the amount. Verify the final price and renewal terms immediately before completing the purchase.
The 10-device promotion can look particularly attractive: roughly $35 for the first year is only slightly more than the one-device introductory offer. That does not automatically make it a bargain. If you use it on just one computer, you are paying for unused capacity, and the renewal rises to a listed $79.99 per year.
Calculate both figures:
- First-year cost per device: introductory price divided by the number of devices you will actually use.
- Renewal cost per device: renewal price divided by the number of devices you will actually use.
A household using six or eight supported devices may receive meaningful value from the 10-device plan. A single Windows user with plenty of free storage probably will not.

Trial and refund terms
Avast advertises a 30-day trial without requiring a credit card on its main Cleanup page, along with a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, the exact process can differ if you subscribe through Google Play, another app store, or a third-party seller. Before starting, confirm:

What features do you get?
Windows
Avast’s Windows documentation identifies features including:
- System-junk cleaning
- Browser cache, cookie, and history cleanup
- Registry-entry scanning
- Broken-shortcut cleanup
- Application management and uninstalling
- Bloatware or unused-program identification
- Cloud Cleaner for supported services
- Disk optimization or related drive maintenance in supported versions
- Automatic maintenance in supported versions
The practical value is uneven. Storage cleanup, finding large files, and removing unwanted applications can solve recognizable problems. Registry scanning is a much weaker reason to subscribe. Avast includes registry-related cleanup, but the available evidence does not establish that paying to remove registry entries produces a meaningful speed increase on a normally functioning modern Windows installation.
Some desktop installations that are not activated may operate in scan-only mode, meaning they can identify issues but cannot perform the paid cleaning functions until a subscription is active.
See Avast’s Windows Cleanup documentation.
macOS
The Mac version is described as a cleaner that can find junk, large files, unwanted applications, and application leftovers. Depending on the current configuration, it may be offered as a standalone product or through Avast One.
Mac users should not assume that every Windows feature is included. Check the Mac-specific plan and feature list before purchase. Avast also notes that some Mac cleaning actions may require your system password to authorize file, photo, or application removal. That can be normal for privileged operations, but review what the action will delete before granting permission.

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Android
Avast’s Android Cleanup documentation describes a broader storage-organization use case. Features include:
- Quick Clean for thumbnails, APKs, residual files, browser data, and visible or hidden cache
- Review of photos and videos
- Identification of large, old, or unwanted files
- Cloud transfer options
- Sleep Mode for selected background apps
- Photo and video optimization
- App and storage organization
Android users may find these tools more useful than a typical Windows user, particularly when photo and video clutter repeatedly consumes storage. Still, test Android’s built-in storage settings and the free Avast version first. The exact subscription and device limit can change because Android subscriptions are handled through Google Play.

Does Avast Cleanup Premium actually make a computer faster?
Sometimes indirectly, but do not expect a general-purpose speed boost.
Rank #4
- NEARLY 2X FASTER THAN OUR PREVIOUS GENERATION(8) – move 1,000 high-res photos in under 60 seconds(6) with up to 2000MB/s transfer speeds(2).
- IP65 RATING AND UP TO 3M DROP PROTECTION(3) – protects against spills and drops.
- POCKET-SIZED – fits easily in pockets and small bags.

- 256-BIT AES ENCRYPTION(4) – helps keep private files secure with password protection.
Cleanup Premium may improve the experience when the actual problem is one of these:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- A nearly full system drive
- Too many unnecessary startup applications
- Unused software or bloatware consuming resources
- Excessive browser or application clutter
- Difficulty finding large, duplicate, or old files
Freeing storage can help when a drive has very little room left, and reducing startup activity can shorten the time before the desktop is usable. Neither result is the same as increasing CPU or RAM performance.
Avast publishes performance examples, including boot-time and PCMark improvements, but these are vendor-supplied laboratory examples rather than independent tests of your computer. Avast also states that results vary. Treat those figures as marketing claims, not a guarantee.
Cleanup Premium is unlikely to solve slow internet, a slow processor, insufficient RAM, a failing drive, serious Windows corruption, thermal throttling, or malware. Those problems require different remedies.
| Actual problem | Likely usefulness of Cleanup Premium |
|---|---|
| Full drive | Possibly useful |
| Too many startup apps | Possibly useful |
| Unused software or bloatware | Possibly useful |
| Malware | Use a security scanner instead |
| Too little RAM | No meaningful substitute |
| Old mechanical hard drive | Limited; hardware replacement may be better |
| Failing drive | No; back up data and replace it |
| Slow CPU or internet | No |
Is the paid version better than the free version?
Premium generally adds paid cleaning and maintenance functions and removes third-party advertisements. On some desktop installations, an inactive version may be limited to scanning.
The important question is not whether Premium has more features. It is whether those features solve a problem that free tools do not. Paying for automatic maintenance, a unified dashboard, cloud-file review, or easier app and duplicate-file management can be reasonable. Paying because a warning says your PC is “slow” is not enough evidence.

Safety and privacy trade-offs
Cleanup software is not automatically risk-free simply because it displays scan results. Review recommendations before deleting them.
- Browser cleanup: Cookies and history may be removed. Full browser cleaning can also remove autofill data and sign you out of websites.
- Cloud Cleaner: Supported connections can include Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Deleting or relocating cloud content can affect synchronized devices.
- Application leftovers: Removing leftovers may remove settings, saved data, or cached content you intended to keep.
- Automatic maintenance: It saves time but gives you less oversight. Start with review-based cleanup and create exclusions where available.
- Android cleanup: Clearing cache is not the same as deleting personal data. Inspect media, downloads, screenshots, app data, and other categories separately.
Before broad cleanup, back up important files, confirm that browser passwords are exported or synchronized, and check the Recycle Bin. Be especially cautious with previous Windows installations: deleting them can remove your ability to roll back an upgrade.
Who should buy Avast Cleanup Premium?
It may be worth paying if:
- You regularly run out of storage and want one interface to locate clutter.
- You manage several Windows, Mac, or Android devices.
- You dislike manually reviewing large files, duplicates, applications, and browser data.
- You want automatic maintenance and accept paying for convenience.
- You have tested the trial and can identify a measurable benefit.
It is probably not worth paying if:
- You have one newer Windows PC with ample free storage.
- You are comfortable using Storage Sense, Task Manager, and Installed apps.
- Your only reason is a popup claiming that the computer is slow.
- You expect a dramatic improvement in gaming FPS, CPU speed, internet speed, or multitasking.
- You are trying to fix malware, failing hardware, insufficient RAM, or serious Windows corruption.
- The main attraction is registry cleaning.
Is the 10-device plan worth it?
The 10-device plan is the most defensible purchase when several people in a household will use it. Its observed first-year price was only a few dollars more than the one-device promotion, but its listed renewal price was also higher: $79.99 rather than $65.99.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Buy it only if the supported devices will genuinely use the software, the plan does not duplicate another subscription, and you are comfortable tracking the renewal date. A cheap first year does not justify paying renewal pricing for nine unused device slots.
How to test it before committing
- Record your current free storage.
- Note how long the computer takes to become usable after startup.
- Record which applications launch automatically.
- Run the trial or free scan.
- Review categories individually. Do not approve every recommendation blindly.
- Back up important files before removing personal, cloud, browser, or application data.
- After cleanup, recheck free storage, startup behavior, and the specific problem you wanted to solve.
- Use the software for a normal week and ask whether it prevented low-storage warnings or saved meaningful manual work.
- Compare that benefit with the listed renewal price, not only the introductory price.
If the computer remains slow, stop treating cleanup as the diagnosis. Run Windows Security, check CPU, memory, and disk usage in Task Manager, review startup apps, back up data, and investigate drive health or Windows system damage. A cleaner cannot compensate for a failing component.
Alternatives to consider
Microsoft Storage Sense and Cleanup recommendations
Best for Windows users who mainly need temporary-file and storage cleanup. They are free, integrated into Windows 10 and Windows 11, and sufficient for many routine tasks. They are less unified and may require more manual review than Avast.
Windows Disk Cleanup and manual maintenance
Best for experienced users who want maximum control. Combine Storage settings, Installed apps, Task Manager startup controls, File Explorer searches for large files, Windows Security, and appropriate drive optimization.
Platform-native mobile tools
Android and iOS users should first inspect built-in storage settings and app-level cleanup tools. Avast’s photo review, cloud transfer, and automation may justify its cost when phone storage is a recurring problem, but not everyone needs another subscription.
CCleaner
CCleaner is a competing third-party cleaner that says it supports Windows, Android, Mac, and more than 300 applications. Compare it with Avast on the features you actually need, automation, platform coverage, privacy and permissions, free-versus-paid limits, and renewal terms. Do not assume that either cleaner is automatically superior.
