Seven & i Holdings says 7-Eleven had a 65% popularity rating in a YouGov study of 1,220 U.S. residents surveyed from October through December 2024. That makes it a standout in one measure of brand opinion—not an across-the-board ranking of where Americans shop for groceries. YouGov’s separate 2025 grocery report puts 7-Eleven ninth for purchase consideration, at 18.0%.
What the 65% popularity figure measures
The October–December 2024 result comes from Seven & i Holdings’ summary of a YouGov study. The company also reported a 97% fame score, meaning nearly all surveyed respondents had heard of 7-Eleven. YouGov defines popularity as the share of people with a positive opinion of a brand; its tracker describes opinion responses ranging from “Really like” and “Like” to “Don’t like” and “Really don’t like.” Fame measures whether respondents have heard of the brand. These figures measure different things: recognition is not the same as liking.
The full survey report, including its complete question wording, weighting details and uncertainty estimates, was not available in the company summary. The 65% should therefore be read as a figure reported by Seven & i Holdings, not as a measure with publicly established precision or as proof that 65% of Americans buy groceries at 7-Eleven.
Why a different YouGov report ranks 7-Eleven ninth
YouGov’s 2025 grocery store report asks a different question: “When you are in the market next to purchase groceries, from which of the following would you consider purchasing?” For data collected from February 1, 2024, through January 31, 2025, it places 7-Eleven ninth overall, with 18.0% grocery consideration. Walmart ranks first. The report’s general-population sample included more than 2,700 people.

The figures are not contradictory: a person can like a brand without considering it for a grocery purchase. The studies also use different measures and time windows, so the popularity score cannot be treated as an alternative version of the consideration ranking. The 2025 report uses a broad grocery-store category; it does not establish that every respondent defines a convenience retailer and a supermarket in the same way.
What “America’s favorite grocery store” does—and doesn’t—mean
The phrase is a headline-friendly description of the 65% popularity result, not a timeless verdict that 7-Eleven is the most-used, most affordable or best grocery retailer in the United States. Brand favorability does not establish shopping frequency, grocery spending, product range or value. The available figures support a narrower conclusion: 7-Eleven scored strongly on positive brand opinion in the company’s account of a late-2024 YouGov study, while a separate YouGov measure of grocery-purchase consideration ranked it ninth.

The result is also time-bound. A secondary account of an earlier YouGov-related result reported a 62% popularity rating in 2022. YouGov’s live 7-Eleven tracker uses quarterly U.S. adult samples of 913–1,893 respondents, and its displayed values can change; a current tracker value should not be substituted for a historical survey result.
