IRCTC ePayLater is a pay-later option for eligible IRCTC e-ticket bookings: a provider pays IRCTC for the booking, then bills the customer for repayment. Whether the option is available, what it costs, and when payment is due should be checked in the live checkout flow and the provider’s current terms. An IRCTC-specific terms document reviewed for this article says payment is due within 14 calendar days of the confirmed booking date; it also sets out charges for overdue invoices.
What is IRCTC ePayLater?
ePayLater is a payment option connected to IRCTC e-ticket checkout, not a discount or a way to avoid paying for a ticket. Under the IRCTC-specific terms published by Arthashastra Fintech, the provider pays IRCTC after the transaction and can then collect the invoice amount from the customer. That amount may include the ticket, service costs, applicable fees and taxes. The exact terms presented to you at checkout should govern your transaction.
IRCTC’s official e-ticket booking instructions describe selecting a train and class, checking availability, and proceeding with “Book Now.” Its payment-page material includes a “PAY LATER” category, but the material reviewed does not name ePayLater or establish that the service is available to every customer.
Is ePayLater available for your booking?
Availability should be determined at checkout, not assumed from older descriptions of the service. Proceed through IRCTC’s booking flow and look for a clearly named ePayLater option under the payment choices. If it is not shown, you cannot rely on the historical pilot announcement or a general “PAY LATER” category as proof that you can use it for that booking.

- Check that the option is specifically identified as ePayLater, rather than assuming every pay-later option is the same provider or product.
- Before confirming, read the fee, repayment deadline and any other terms displayed for your transaction.
- If the checkout disclosure differs from an older web page or PDF, use the current disclosure and terms presented for your booking, and contact the provider if they conflict or are unclear.
What does ePayLater cost?
The sources do not establish one current fee that applies to every ePayLater booking. The Ministry of Railways described the service as a pilot powered by Arthashastra Fintech in a 2 August 2017 release. It said customers could pay after 15 days and reported a service charge of 3.50% of the transaction amount plus applicable taxes. A 7 March 2018 Ministry release repeated those historical terms. Neither release confirms today’s fee, due date or availability.
Check the fee shown for your booking before authorising payment. A historical fee should not be treated as a current quote, and a fee displayed at checkout may depend on the applicable terms for that transaction.

Do not confuse ePayLater with IRCTC eWallet. eWallet is a separate prepaid service; its fees and balance rules do not describe ePayLater. IRCTC lists eWallet details on its eWallet service page.
When is repayment due?
The IRCTC-specific Arthashastra Fintech terms reviewed for this article state that the invoice must be paid within 14 calendar days from the confirmed booking date. They say no interest is charged if the invoice is paid in full by its due date. Because this differs from the 15-day period in the Ministry’s 2017 and 2018 descriptions, treat the due date shown with your current booking and in its applicable provider terms as decisive.

Make a note of the date the invoice is due and allow time for the payment to be processed. The terms describe a calendar-day period, not a period of working days.
How do you repay?
An older, general ePayLater provider FAQ lists net banking, debit cards, credit cards and selected mobile wallets as repayment methods, and says cash payment is not supported. That FAQ may not reflect current IRCTC-specific repayment channels. Check the payment options in your ePayLater account or the current repayment page before relying on a particular method.

What happens if you cancel the ticket?
Cancellation does not necessarily remove the ePayLater bill. Under the IRCTC-specific terms, if you cancel before the journey date, the provider issues a revised invoice reflecting cancellation fees and other applicable charges. The revised amount remains payable by the original due date.
The terms reviewed do not establish every refund route or timing. Do not assume that cancellation automatically reverses the invoice, or that a refund will arrive by a particular date. Check the revised invoice and contact the provider if the amount does not match the cancellation outcome shown for your ticket.

What happens if you miss the deadline?
The IRCTC-specific terms reviewed define default as failing to pay the invoice in full by its due date. They state that overdue invoice amounts incur default interest at 36% per annum, calculated pro rata daily on a 365-day-year basis, and that recovery costs may also be payable. These are contractual terms in that provider document, not a guarantee that every customer currently receives the same terms; confirm the version applicable to your booking.
A separate older provider FAQ gives a different late-charge description: 3% monthly pro-rata penal interest for overdue days, with a stated exception for PVR. It is a stale, general FAQ and should not be combined with or substituted for the IRCTC-specific terms. If your account or invoice applies a charge you did not expect, check the current terms tied to the transaction and ask the provider for an itemised explanation.
What to check before choosing pay later
- Availability: Is ePayLater explicitly offered for this booking and account?
- Total cost: What fee and taxes, if any, are displayed before confirmation?
- Due date: What date appears on the invoice, and does it match the applicable provider terms?
- Late-payment terms: What interest and recovery costs apply if the invoice is not paid in full on time?
- Cancellation: How will cancellation fees affect the revised invoice, and when is that amount due?
- Repayment channel: Which methods are currently available in your account?
Use pay later only if you can meet the stated deadline and understand the total amount owed. Keep the booking confirmation, invoice and any revised invoice so you can check charges against the terms applicable to the transaction.
