The iPhone 18 Pro could start around $1,299–$1,399 in the U.S., according to current analyst-based reports, versus $1,099 for the iPhone 17 Pro. The Pro Max could land around $1,399–$1,499, compared with $1,199 today. Apple has not announced either phone’s price, so those figures are forecasts—not confirmed prices.
What might the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max cost?
The most defensible forecast is a possible $200–$300 increase over the iPhone 17 generation, but reports disagree. The table uses the current 256GB starting configurations as the comparison; Apple has not confirmed the iPhone 18 models’ storage tiers.

| Model | iPhone 17 starting price | Plausible iPhone 18 estimate | Implied increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Pro | $1,099 (256GB) | $1,299–$1,399 (256GB assumed) | $200–$300 |
| iPhone Pro Max | $1,199 (256GB) | $1,399–$1,499 (256GB assumed); $1,299 is also possible | $200–$300 in the higher scenario; $100 in the lower scenario |
The upper end is driven by a report that the iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,399 or more (9to5Mac). Other reporting estimates a potential $250–$350 increase (Tom’s Guide). A separate forecast puts the Pro at $1,299 and the Pro Max at $1,399 (Tom’s Guide).

What does the iPhone 17 baseline cost?
Apple’s U.S. launch prices for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max were $1,099 and $1,199, respectively, with 256GB starting storage. The Pro Max also has a 2TB configuration. Apple’s current U.S. storage ladder is:
| Model | Capacity | Current U.S. price |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro | 256GB | $1,099 |
| iPhone 17 Pro | 512GB | $1,299 |

Why are analysts expecting a price increase?
Memory and other components
Analyst reports point to higher memory and component costs, including potentially more memory in the next Pro models. Such claims are not Apple-confirmed specifications. Even if component costs rise, the retail price does not have to rise by the same amount: Apple could absorb some costs, accept lower margins, or offset them through manufacturing and product-mix decisions. Reports also cite possible camera changes and a next-generation A20 chip made using a more advanced manufacturing process. These are rumors, not confirmed iPhone 18 specifications; the exact camera hardware and chip details remain unsettled. A newer processor could cost more initially while also offering efficiency or performance improvements that Apple could use to support premium positioning. Positioning within the 2026 lineup
Reports about a possible foldable iPhone add another possible factor: Apple may position the Pro models differently if it introduces a higher-priced device. Whether that would make the Pro range seem more affordable or lead Apple to protect its margins is speculation, not a confirmed pricing strategy (Tom’s Guide).
Why the increase could be smaller—or not happen
Earlier reports said Apple might use cost management and “aggressive pricing” to keep iPhone 18 Pro prices near the iPhone 17 generation. That possibility conflicts with the later, higher forecasts; it should not be treated as disproved. The conflicting reports are why a price range is more useful than presenting $1,399 as a fact (9to5Mac; Macworld).
Apple could also hold a familiar headline starting price while changing the storage ladder, the Pro-to-Pro-Max price gap, or which configurations it sells. Until Apple lists the capacities and prices, an unchanged “from” price would not by itself prove that equivalent models cost the same.

Three possible U.S. pricing scenarios
| Scenario | iPhone 18 Pro estimate | iPhone 18 Pro Max estimate | What it would mean against iPhone 17 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prices near current levels | Near $1,099 | Near $1,199 | Little or no starting-price increase |
| Roughly $200 more | $1,299 | $1,399 | Preserves a $100 gap between models |
| Roughly $300 more | $1,399 | $1,499 | Moves the entry Pro near today’s Pro Max price |
These are scenarios, not Apple prices. The $1,299/$1,399 estimate has been reported for the smaller-increase case; the $1,399 Pro estimate is the more dramatic forecast. The Pro Max figure is less certain because reports do not establish whether Apple would keep the current $100 gap or apply the same increase to both phones.

How to calculate the real cost
The retail price is only one part of an upgrade decision. Your out-of-pocket cost depends on the storage tier, trade-in, financing, tax, optional protection, and any carrier-plan requirements.
Compare storage before comparing generations
On the iPhone 17 Pro Max, moving from 256GB to 512GB adds $200, from 512GB to 1TB adds another $200, and the 2TB model is $1,999. A future $1,399 starting price would be a $200 increase over the current 512GB Pro Max, but a $300 increase over the 256GB model—so the capacity has to be stated alongside the price.
Use trade-in credits as an estimate, not a guaranteed price
Apple’s U.S. store currently advertises roughly $195–$695 in credit toward eligible iPhone 17 models for qualifying iPhone 13-or-newer trade-ins; the amount depends on model and condition (Apple’s iPhone store). Those are current signals, not promised iPhone 18 launch values. For illustration only, a hypothetical $1,399 phone minus a hypothetical $500 trade-in leaves $899 before tax and any other costs. The $500 is an example, not a quoted offer.

Apple currently advertises carrier credits of up to $800–$1,100 on eligible purchases in some offers, subject to the carrier, trade-in, plan, and promotion (Apple carrier offers). Credits commonly arrive over monthly installments and may require a qualifying plan or new line. Leaving before the credit period ends can mean losing remaining credits while still owing the device balance. Treat the promotion’s total credit as conditional savings, not the phone’s retail price.

Consider financing and optional costs
Apple currently lists 24-month payment options for iPhone 17 Pro models and advertises Apple Card Monthly Installments at 0% APR for eligible customers, subject to program terms (Apple’s iPhone store). A $300 price difference divided evenly over 24 months is $12.50 per month before tax, trade-in credits, or financing conditions; that arithmetic is not a promised payment. Budget separately for sales tax, a case, screen protection, and AppleCare+ if wanted. Apple’s current iPhone 17 Pro Max page lists AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss at $13.99 monthly or $139.99 yearly; iPhone 18 coverage and pricing may differ (Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max page).
Should you buy an iPhone 17 Pro now or wait?
Buy the iPhone 17 Pro now if
- You need a phone before Apple announces the next generation.
- The 17 Pro already meets your camera, battery, and performance needs.
- You can get a genuine retailer discount or a carrier offer whose plan and commitment suit you.
- You prefer a phone with known specifications and availability to making a decision around unconfirmed features.
Wait for iPhone 18 pricing if
- Your current phone works well enough to wait for Apple’s official prices and specifications.
- You want to compare launch-day trade-in and carrier offers with the cost of keeping your current device.
- You are specifically interested in the reported chip or camera changes and are prepared for them to be different—or absent.
Waiting has a trade-off: your current phone’s trade-in value could decline, but launch promotions may be more generous. Neither outcome is established, so do not count on a particular trade-in value before the offers are published.
Choose between Pro and Pro Max based on use, not just the starting gap
- Consider the Pro Max if its larger display, battery, or highest storage options are worth the extra cost and size to you.
- Consider the Pro if you prefer a smaller, lighter phone or do not need the largest storage tiers—especially if the price gap widens.
What remains unconfirmed
Apple has not announced iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max pricing, storage capacities, final camera specifications, RAM, or regional prices. Rumored hardware should be treated as reported information until Apple confirms it. U.S. estimates should not be converted directly into pounds or euros: local taxes, currency, and regional pricing decisions affect those prices. For example, a Spanish report projected prices near €1,600 for the Pro and €1,750 for the Pro Max, but these are regional estimates, not Apple-confirmed figures (Cinco Días).
