Its catalog ranged from Fair memorabilia and machinery to livestock equipment, furniture, and building supplies. The Fair’s homepage separately announced another online auction for October 27–November 6, 2026, but its catalog and terms have not been established.
What was the Iowa State Fair surplus auction?
The 2025 sale was an online auction handled by Daugherty Auction and Real Estate Services, LLC, of De Soto, Iowa. Agriculture.com / Successful Farming reported that the catalog contained more than 700 lots. The sale closed November 6, 2025, so its listings and bidding are no longer available as an active sale. The 2025 sale report described proceeds as returning to the Fair’s general fund to support new equipment.
The report called it the second liquidation auction in the Fair’s history. CEO Jeremy Parsons said the sale marked the end of a two-year effort to clear out storage areas and warehouses, and described it at the time as “the final auction for the foreseeable future.” That was a statement about the plan in 2025, not a guarantee against later auctions.
What was in the 700+ lots?
The catalog mixed collectibles with practical surplus property. Examples below are from the 2025 report, not a current inventory.

| Livestock equipment | Nine farrowing crates with stainless-steel feeders, a scale chute, sheep-barn pens, stall panels, and horse-barn gates on sliding tracks |

Machinery condition mattered
The report noted that the Massey Ferguson 360 had a transmission seal issue and turf tires, a PTO, and a three-point hitch. The Ford 5600 needed power-steering repair. The report did not establish the working condition of the two pickup trucks. Items were sold “as is,” so a catalog description should not be treated as a mechanical inspection or assurance of working condition.
How bidding and pickup worked in 2025
Registered bidders used the auction website identified in the report as HiBid. An item preview was held by appointment on October 31, 2025. These are historical details; the sale and its pickup dates have passed.

Is there another Iowa State Fair online auction in 2026?
The Iowa State Fair homepage announced an online auction scheduled for October 27 through November 6, 2026. The available announcement does not establish the 2026 catalog, lot count, sale purpose, bidding platform, fees, or pickup arrangements. In particular, it does not confirm that the 2026 sale will repeat the 2025 catalog of more than 700 surplus lots.

The 2025 auction offered a broad mix, from memorabilia with personal or collectible appeal to equipment and supplies that could require repair, transport, or substantial handling. For a buyer comparing lots, the bid amount alone would not capture the full commitment: condition, repair needs, transport and loading logistics, and applicable sale fees all affect the total cost. No final aggregate proceeds figure was reported in the 2025 coverage.
Parsons said the response to the sale had been overwhelmingly positive, with buyers valuing the chance to own a piece of the Fair. That explains the appeal of the memorabilia, but it does not establish the value or condition of any individual lot.
