What was the application process?
IOCL required applicants to apply online through its own website; it did not accept applications through another submission method. Advertisement RD-2025 described a two-step process:
- Step I: Register and create a profile.
- Step II: Log in, complete the application, and pay the online fee where applicable.
The notice warned applicants to review their entries carefully because a submitted application could not be edited. These instructions describe the 2025 process and do not indicate that registration is open now.
What qualifications and experience did AQCO require?
Degree and marks
The notice required a regular, full-time master’s degree in Chemistry or a listed equivalent discipline: inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, applied, or industrial chemistry. It excluded other branches including biochemistry, pharmacy, toxicology, geochemistry, pharmacology, and food technology. The minimum marks were:

Relevant work experience
Candidates needed at least two years of cumulative qualifying experience in testing, research and development, or quality control in petroleum, petrochemical, polymer, or fertilizer unit laboratories, and/or qualifying work in an NABL-accredited chemical testing laboratory with the specified lubricants or petroleum-products scope. The advertisement counted experience gained after the result of the qualifying degree; teaching and research experience at academic institutes did not count.

What does the AQCO role involve?
The post’s indicative duties covered laboratory testing and quality systems for petroleum and related products. Work could include:
- Quality assurance and compliance, including maintaining accreditation and laboratory quality systems.
- Chemical and physical testing of petroleum, petrochemical, polymer, biofuel, lubricant, grease, and additive samples, as well as water and effluent.
- Operating and calibrating analytical instruments, preparing test reports and certificates of analysis, and supporting laboratory safety and operations.
Examples of instruments listed in the notice include gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, viscometers, titrators, HPLC, AAS, FTIR, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, and flash-point equipment. These are job-related tools, not items an applicant needs to buy to apply.

Advertisement RD-2025 stated that selected candidates could initially be posted at Refinery or Marketing Division units and could later be transferred anywhere in India or to subsidiary or joint-venture companies. As background, the advertisement cited IOCL sales of 97.551 million tonnes of products and revenue from operations of ₹8,66,345 crore in FY 2023–24. Those company figures are not recruitment or applicant statistics; the notice did not state how many people applied or provide a selection ratio.
