(NYSE: IVR) underperformed competitors in a Friday trading session, but the session date and the figures needed to quantify that comparison are not verified. Without the original report or matching same-session market data, IVR’s closing price, percentage move, and the competitors’ returns should not be inferred.
What the headline establishes
Invesco Mortgage Capital Inc. is a real estate investment trust that invests in, finances, and manages mortgage-backed securities and other mortgage-related assets. Its common stock trades under the ticker IVR. A company-profile result describing the business concerned IVR-C preferred shares, so it supports this general company description, not security-specific details about IVR common stock. MarketWatch’s IVR-C profile
“Underperforms” is a relative claim about one trading session: it means the stock did worse than the comparator or comparators used in the report. By itself, it does not explain why IVR moved, establish that competitors had similar business or risk characteristics, or indicate how the stock will perform later.
Friday’s date and return figures are unconfirmed
The available results do not establish which Friday the headline refers to, IVR’s closing price or percentage change, the report’s peer list, or those peers’ returns. A similar MarketWatch headline found for Thursday, October 2, is a different session and cannot identify the Friday figures. MarketWatch

#1 Best Overall
For an accurate comparison, use the original Friday report or a matching market-data record. Compare IVR’s close and percentage change with each competitor actually named, using figures for the same session. Include a market index only if the report does, and keep trading volume and distance from a 52-week high separate from relative return: they measure different things.
Do not confuse figures from another MarketWatch comparison
A separate Dow Jones/MarketWatch automated report about MFA Financial, published June 26, 2026, provides an example of the format: it covered the focal stock’s daily move, broader market performance, competitor moves, and trading volume, attributing data to Dow Jones Market Data and FactSet. Its figures are not the missing Friday IVR comparison:

| AGNC Investment Corp. | Rose 2.64% to $10.90 |
Those are June 26 figures reported in the MFA article, not target-session data; that report also does not establish that PennyMac or AGNC were peers named in the Friday IVR headline. MarketWatch

Check the session date and data source first, then compare same-session percentage returns. A share price alone cannot show which stock performed better because stocks trade at different per-share prices. The peer list also matters: a relative-performance statement describes the securities chosen by that report, not necessarily the whole mortgage REIT sector.

No target-specific quote or explanation for IVR’s move is established by the available information. A daily underperformance comparison should therefore be treated as a description of that session, not as evidence of a particular cause or a forecast.
