That was the announced price—not the only amount later reported: Philips said the sale closed for EUR 60 million cash, while IR later reported approximately $55 million in total consideration for TechnoFusion and related U.S. assets.
What IR announced
The buyer was International Rectifier, the seller was Royal Philips Electronics, and the business was TechnoFusion GmbH. EE Times’ archived listing dates the announcement to April 15, 2002, and gives the headline deal value as $50 million cash: EE Times’ archived listing. A contemporaneous archive of IR’s completion announcement also describes the acquisition of TechnoFusion’s operations and assets from Philips: IR completion announcement archive.
The original EE Times article body is unavailable in the accessible archive, so the $50 million figure is best understood as the amount stated in its listing summary, not as a complete account of the transaction’s final accounting.
Why later reports give different amounts
The figures refer to different reporting stages and, in IR’s filing, a broader transaction perimeter. They should not be treated as interchangeable prices.

The reports use different currencies and describe different transaction contexts. The available information does not establish a single figure that should replace all three: the $50 million figure is the announcement amount, Philips’ EUR 60 million figure is its reported cash amount at completion, and IR’s approximately $55 million figure includes related U.S. assets.
What TechnoFusion made
TechnoFusion made power-generation systems for automotive electronics. Philips’ reporting also describes integrated regulator micro-electronic modules. Philips reported that the business had approximately USD 50 million in sales in 2001 and approximately 375 employees; those are historical company-reported figures, not present-day operating data. What IR later reported about the business
In its fiscal 2004 filing, IR attributed $41.7 million in automotive revenues to TechnoFusion for the twelve months ended June 30, 2003, and $7.5 million for the twelve months ended June 30, 2002. IR also identified automotive power-system manufacturing and assembly facilities in Swansea, Wales, and Krefeld, Germany. These are buyer-reported retrospective operating figures and facility descriptions; they are not transaction prices or standalone audited results for TechnoFusion. See IR fiscal 2004 Form 10-K.
