Ag Manufacturing & Technology (AMT) announced in 2019 that its IntelliDrive seeding system had planted more than one million acres. That is a historical milestone—not a current acreage total or proof of present-day product availability. IntelliDrive was designed to use section control to reduce seed skips and overlap, while IntelliDrive PLUS was announced for a different set of John Deere equipment.
What the million-acre milestone says—and what it doesn’t
AMT announced the more-than-one-million-acre milestone on August 7, 2019; Successful Farming reported it on August 28, 2019. The figure describes the system’s cumulative use at that time. It does not establish how many acres have been planted since, or whether the product is still sold.
The American Soybean Association reported that IntelliDrive was then used in 15 states and two Canadian provinces. That, too, is a 2019 snapshot rather than a current service-area count.
How IntelliDrive was intended to reduce seed waste
Successful Farming described the original IntelliDrive as a motorized-manifold attachment for John Deere 1690 and 1990 air seeders. The manifold used up to 12 electric drives to enable section control: sections could be controlled to reduce overlap and skips, with the aim of avoiding wasted seed. GPS precision and proprietary software were part of the system; information could appear on a Deere split screen or another monitor or tablet.

That design addresses a practical cost issue: when planting equipment overlaps, some areas can receive seed more than once. Section control is intended to limit that overlap. The reports describe the system’s purpose and configuration, but do not provide an independently controlled performance study or quantify results across different fields and operations.

For PLUS, AMT said the software could be displayed on the Deere split screen or another monitor. The two configurations are not interchangeable based on the available descriptions: the reported equipment fit differs, and the sources do not establish updated compatibility details.

What the savings claims mean for a farm budget
AMT’s reported percentages are historical company claims, not a basis for assuming a particular farm will save that amount. Real economics would depend on exact machine compatibility, acreage, seed and fertilizer costs, field shapes, and operation-specific results. The 2019 reports do not quantify a general current return, provide current prices, or offer independently measured comparative performance.
One farmer quoted by Successful Farming, Todd Williams of Ballard County, Kentucky, said: “Your seed savings alone will recoup the cost of the equipment.” Williams planted wheat and other commodities on 3,000 acres. That is his attributed assessment, not a verified payback calculation that can be applied to another operation. AMT founder Rusty Kordick described PLUS as a way to maximize existing equipment, while Integrity Ag Group co-owner Michael Rushing contrasted air drills’ former “controlled spill” with singulating seed. These are attributed remarks from 2019 reporting, not independent test findings.
