Smith chief financial officer effective immediately on October 16, 2007, replacing Andy Bryant, who became the company’s newly created chief administrative officer. Intel described the move as part of its long-term succession planning.
Who replaced Andy Bryant as Intel CFO?
Stacy J. Smith, then 44, succeeded Bryant as Intel’s CFO. Smith had spent 18 months as assistant CFO and was already managing the company’s financial operations alongside Bryant. The appointment was an internal promotion, not an outside hire.
What happened to Andy Bryant?
Bryant moved into the newly created role of chief administrative officer and continued to receive reports from Smith. He had served as Intel CFO since 1994, a 13-year tenure by the time of the 2007 announcement. Intel president and CEO Paul Otellini said, “Andy Bryant is one of the most respected financial officers in the world.”
Why did Intel make the change?
Intel presented the transition as planned succession rather than an unexpected departure. Smith’s prior work alongside Bryant offered continuity in financial operations, while Bryant’s move to chief administrative officer placed him in a broader administrative role. The announcement did not specify further details about that role’s responsibilities.
