The additions can help businesses decide what to test next, but they are not confirmed as available to every account. Meta’s Help Center documents core metrics such as Views, Accounts reached, and Reel follows, but does not clearly confirm every feature in the report.
What Instagram reportedly added to Insights
Website Builder Expert reported the update on August 6, 2025, describing a broader rollout after testing. The following additions are reported features, not a guarantee that every professional account will show them. Read the report.
| Reported feature | What it may show | Useful business question | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Like timing on Reels | When during a Reel viewers liked it. | Which moment might be worth testing as a hook, reveal, demonstration, or call to action? | A like at a particular second does not prove that moment caused it; a viewer may react to the whole video or interact after a delay. |
| Carousel like position | Which image was on screen when a user liked the post. | Should a benefit, product, testimonial, or offer appear earlier? | This is not necessarily a complete engagement breakdown for every slide, nor does it show which slide led to a sale. |
| Post-level demographics | Audience information for an individual post or Reel, potentially including age range, gender, top locations, or follower status where available. | Did this content reach the intended audience or a new one? | Meta says some demographic breakdowns require more than 100 accounts reached or engaged; smaller samples may not produce a breakdown. |
| Content associated with follows | Posts or Reels that attracted new followers. | Which content helps audience growth rather than simply collecting likes? | A follow is not evidence that the person became a customer. |
| “Viewers” metric | The report describes a metric intended to show how many accounts viewed content. | How much exposure did a post receive? | Do not treat “viewers,” Views, and Accounts reached as interchangeable; Meta currently documents Views and Accounts reached separately. |
What Meta currently documents
Meta’s Instagram Insights Help Center says Insights are available to business and creator accounts. It documents metrics including Views, Accounts reached, Interactions, Accounts engaged, and Total followers. Its Reels Insights guidance also documents Follows: the number of accounts that started following after viewing a Reel.
Views and reach answer different questions
- Views count times content was played or displayed; repeat views by the same account can count.
- Accounts reached is the number of unique accounts that saw content on screen at least once. For Reels, this can include accounts that saw the Reel even if it did not play.
- Interactions describe actions on content, while Accounts engaged counts accounts that interacted.
Meta still documents Accounts reached alongside Views, so the reported shift toward Views should not be read as proof that reach has been removed. Some Insights metrics are estimated and still in development, according to Meta.

Availability and history limits
Account Insights can use preset or custom timeframes within the previous 90 days. Meta says Reel Insights are available for Reels posted on or after May 14, 2021, for up to two years after publication. The reported new interface elements may vary by account, region, content type, and rollout status; Meta’s available Help Center material does not explicitly document every reported feature.
How to find Instagram Insights
Account-level performance
- Open Instagram and go to the business or creator profile.
- Open the professional dashboard or Insights area; wording can differ between app versions.
- Choose a preset or custom reporting period within the available 90-day history.
- Review Views, Interactions, Total followers, content performance, and audience information shown for that account.
One post or Reel
- Open the post or Reel on the professional account.
- Select View insights. For a Reel, Meta documents opening the Reels tab, selecting the Reel, then choosing View insights.
- Review the metrics available for that content, such as views, reach, interactions, accounts engaged, follows, or watch time.
- Use metric information icons where shown to check Instagram’s definition of a label.
If a reported metric is missing
- Confirm the account is set as a business or creator account.
- Update Instagram to the latest version available for the device, then check both the content-level Insights and professional dashboard.
- Allow time for the post to accumulate activity; try a longer date range if demographic data is absent.
- Check whether the content format supports the metric and whether regional availability may apply.
- Do not conclude that a feature has been withdrawn based only on its absence: rollouts can be staged, and labels may change.
How to turn the extra detail into better content
Use Reel like timing to form a creative hypothesis
Compare the timing of likes with the hook, first product appearance, explanation of a benefit, before-and-after transition, price or offer reveal, and final call to action. Treat any apparent peak as a clue to test, not proof of causation. Pair it with watch time, saves, shares, profile visits, clicks, and follows to see whether the Reel met its purpose.
Rank #2
Use carousel position to test slide order
Compare formats such as product-first versus benefit-first, a short carousel versus a tutorial, or a testimonial early versus late. If a particular slide appears alongside likes, try moving that information earlier in a future post. Pair the observation with saves, shares, carousel progression where available, and profile actions; a liked slide is not necessarily the one that prompted a purchase.
Use demographics to spot audience mismatch
Post-level audience data may show that a post reached an unexpected age group, a location outside a service area, or more non-followers than usual. Avoid changing a target market on the basis of one post: a viral or unusually distributed post can differ from the account’s normal audience, and demographic figures are aggregate estimates subject to volume thresholds. Insights do not identify individual viewers.
Rank #3
Rank posts by follower acquisition, not likes alone
Keep a simple record of the post or Reel, publication date, views, accounts reached, accounts engaged, follows, profile visits, and website clicks or other business actions. A useful calculation is follows ÷ accounts reached × 100, labeled as an internal follower conversion rate rather than an Instagram-native metric. Compare similar formats and objectives; a smaller educational post may attract more relevant followers than a widely viewed post.
| Business objective | More relevant measures |
|---|---|
| Awareness | Views, Accounts reached, and non-follower distribution where available. |
| Engagement | Comments, saves, shares, and interactions. |
| Audience growth | Follows, profile visits, and follows per reached account. |
| Education | Saves, shares, watch time, and carousel progression where available. |
| Sales or leads | Profile actions, website clicks, DMs, and separately tracked conversions. |
| Retention | Watch time and repeat-view or returning-audience trends where available. |
A practical monthly review
- Record or export the account’s strongest posts for the period and label each by format and intended objective.
- Compare views, unique reach, interactions, and follows within comparable formats rather than treating all content as equivalent.
- Inspect available audience information for meaningful differences, accounting for sample size and unusual distribution.
- Choose one creative element to repeat or change, such as a Reel’s opening, the order of carousel slides, or the clarity of the call to action.
- Publish a variation and compare results over a similar period.
- Track downstream business actions separately with tagged links, website analytics, lead records, or sales data; Insights alone does not establish revenue attribution.
When native Insights may not be enough
For a small business managing one or a few accounts, native Instagram Insights may answer the basic questions without another subscription. Meta Business Suite is a first-party option for businesses that also need Meta publishing, inbox, or reporting workflows: Meta Business Suite.
Rank #4
| Need | Tool category to consider | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Consistent publishing for a solo operator or small team | A lightweight scheduler such as Buffer. | Scheduling convenience may not provide the detailed cross-platform reporting or team controls a larger organization needs. |
| Visual planning for an Instagram-led brand | A visual content planner such as Later. | Its planning orientation may be less relevant to teams focused on listening, B2B reporting, or enterprise governance. |
| Cross-platform and client reporting | An analytics-oriented service such as Metricool. | Third-party reporting does not guarantee access to every native Instagram metric. |
| Approvals and management across many accounts | A team workflow platform such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social. | The added workflow capability may be unnecessary if the business only needs basic Insights for one account. |
Consider an external platform when cross-platform dashboards, client-ready reports, scheduled exports, approval workflows, or historical reporting beyond native limits justify the added cost and complexity. No third-party service should be assumed to reveal private viewer identities or unlock data Instagram does not provide.
Quick Recap
Limits that matter before making a decision
- Views are not people: repeat views can increase Views without increasing unique Accounts reached.
- Reach is not attention: an account may have seen a Reel on screen without meaningfully watching it; use watch-time measures to assess attention.
- Demographics may be unavailable or unrepresentative: limited volume, a short period, privacy restrictions, or an unusual distribution can affect what appears.
- Like position is not attribution: it does not establish that a specific frame caused the reaction.
- Slide position is not conversion: it does not establish which slide drove a save, profile visit, or purchase.
- Paid and organic reporting can differ: Meta’s Insights documentation includes ad-related measures, but messaging and advertising metrics may vary by geography and delivery context.
