What is the yacht, and why does it have two names?
Viva and Defy are names for the same yacht. SuperYacht Times currently lists it as Defy and records Viva as its previous name. The database classifies it as a motor yacht, not a sailing yacht. Feadship, the Dutch shipbuilder, launched the vessel in 2021. SuperYacht Times’ vessel profile provides the current listing and technical particulars.
Is it really worth $250 million?
There is no substantiated current valuation of exactly US$250 million in the cited reporting. The figure appears to mix currencies: Boss Hunting’s July 2022 headline used “$250 million,” while its article body reported US$175 million, equivalent to AU$252 million. Forbes Australia’s 2024 feature estimated the yacht’s value at US$190 million. Both are published estimates, not confirmed transaction prices or current appraisals.

Who owns it now?
Fertitta was named as the owner in the 2022 Boss Hunting report and Forbes Australia’s 2024 feature. Those sources establish a reported association at those dates, not present-day ownership. The current SuperYacht Times profile does not publicly disclose an owner. A search-indexed Casino.org result mentions a later sale to Ken Griffin, but the accessible article text did not substantiate the transfer, so that claim should not be treated as confirmed. How large is Defy?
SuperYacht Times lists Defy at 94 metres (308 feet 5 inches) overall, with a 14-metre beam, maximum draught of 3.9 metres and gross tonnage of 2,999. Gross tonnage is a measure of enclosed volume, not the yacht’s weight. Its hull is steel and its superstructure aluminium.
Who designed and built the yacht?
Feadship built the yacht in the Netherlands. SuperYacht Times credits Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture and De Voogt Naval Architects with exterior design, names De Voogt as naval architect, and credits Peter Marino with the interior. Those roles distinguish the builder from the firms and designer responsible for its exterior, engineering and interior.

What are its performance and onboard features?
SuperYacht Times lists two diesel MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines with total output of 5,840 kW (7,832 hp) and a top speed of 20 knots. Forbes Australia describes the propulsion system as diesel-electric hybrid; the database profile lists the engines but does not itself establish that hybrid description.
Boss Hunting’s 2022 account describes formal dining, a cinema, gym, beauty salon and helipad. It also reports seven cabins and 18 crew. SuperYacht Times lists accommodation for 14 guests. The crew figure and amenity description come from the 2022 report and should not be read as a current operating manifest.
