Published reports have linked Tom Cruise to cars ranging from a Porsche 928 to a Bugatti Veyron, but the available sources do not establish a current inventory or confirm that his collection is worth a million dollars. The clearest way to separate the claims is to distinguish cars attributed to him by a 2019 publication from vehicles used in his films.
What cars have been reported as part of Tom Cruise’s collection?
A July 14, 2019 article by GQ España attributed these models to Cruise:
- Bugatti Veyron
- 1949 Buick Roadmaster
- Chevrolet Corvette C1
- Ford Mustang Saleen S281
- Porsche 928
- BMW 7 Series
- Cadillac Escalade
- Mercedes-Benz CLK W209
This is a dated secondary report, not a verified ownership register. It does not explain how the claims were checked, and it cannot establish which cars Cruise owns now. The list is useful as a record of what one publication reported, not as a definitive catalogue of his garage.
Why is the Porsche 928 especially associated with Cruise?
The 928 is closely tied to Cruise’s 1983 film Risky Business, but the cars used for filming should not be confused with cars he personally owned. Specialist magazine Excellence, recounting production research and interviews, reports that four 928s were used during filming and two additional cars were involved in post-production.

The production cars had different jobs
| Car described by Excellence | Specification reported | Production role |
|---|---|---|
| Primary filming car | 1981, Platinum Metallic, automatic | Identified as the main car used during filming |
| “Fill car” | 1979, five-speed | Used for driving scenes and portions of the chase |
| Another 1979 car | 1979, five-speed | Used for a separate scene |
| Fourth filming car | Year, transmission and color not stated in the account summarized here | Used for the lake dump |
Excellence quotes writer-director Paul Brickman explaining the choice of car for the character’s father: “He saw the 928, on the other hand, as exactly the type of car a successful Windy City businessman would drive to work every day.” That is a comment about the film’s characterization, not evidence of Cruise’s ownership. The production history likewise does not prove he owns any of the 928s used in the movie.
How do Mission: Impossible cars fit into the picture?
Cars featured in Cruise’s films can add to the impression of a large personal collection, but screen vehicles are not automatically an actor’s property. In an August 17, 2018 release, BMW Group identified a BMW 7 Series, BMW M5, BMW R nineT Scrambler and BMW M5 E28 among the vehicles featured in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The release describes the automaker’s franchise partnership and a display of original movie vehicles at BMW Welt at that time; it does not say Cruise personally owned those cars.

Is Tom Cruise’s car collection worth a million dollars?
The available reporting does not establish a reliable total value, a complete vehicle count or a current inventory. A collection-wide figure would require an attributable valuation with a date, a defined list of vehicles and a method for estimating their worth. Without that, “million-dollar collection” is a headline claim rather than a verified sum.
Individual models can have very different values depending on year, condition, specification, provenance and market timing. The sources cited here do not provide a consistent, dated appraisal of the cars attributed to Cruise, so adding estimated prices together would create false precision.
