The Weeknd, whose birth name is Abel Tesfaye, reportedly paid $70 million for a Bel Air mansion in an off-market deal in 2021. Architectural Digest described a roughly 33,000-square-foot home on 1.6 acres, with extensive indoor and outdoor amenities. That figure is a reported historical purchase price—not evidence of the property’s current owner, occupancy, or value.
How much did The Weeknd pay for his Bel Air mansion?
Architectural Digest and Realtor.com reported that Tesfaye bought the property for $70 million in 2021. Realtor.com described it as one of Los Angeles’s most expensive transactions that year, a ranking limited to that period. The deal was reported as off-market, meaning it was not publicly offered through the usual listing process.
The purchase price is best understood as a reported transaction figure, not a current appraisal. Realtor.com quoted Amalfi Estates listing agent Anthony Marguleas calling it “a big number.” In September 2021, Douglas Elliman agent Connie Blankenship said, “When a property is sold off-market, the buyer has to pay a premium high enough to entice the current owner to sell.” Those were agents’ contemporaneous comments, not present-day pricing guidance.
What is inside The Weeknd’s Bel Air mansion?
Architectural Digest reported the estate at approximately 33,000 square feet on a 1.6-acre lot overlooking the Bel Air Country Club. Its published description included a mix of leisure, fitness, and entertainment spaces:

How the former owners renovated the property
Dutch media executive Reinout Oerlemans and his wife Danielle reportedly bought the property in 2015 for $21.4 million. Architectural Digest said they spent three years renovating it and added 13,000 square feet. Its account of the redesign noted a contemporary makeover and several unusual finishes: kitchen drawer handles made from leather belts, orange gloss paint on the living-room walls, and wooden sunburst panels in the office.
