The often-repeated $160 million figure is reported coverage, not a verified sale price or current valuation; Forbes Australia gives a separate estimate of $108 million.
What is Musashi?
YachtBuyer identifies Musashi as a Feadship motor yacht delivered in 2011 and names Ellison as its commissioning owner. It lists the yacht at 87.78 metres (288 feet), with a steel displacement hull, an aluminium superstructure and 2,463 gross tonnage (GT). These are publication-reported specifications, rather than figures confirmed here by the builder.
The same profile credits De Voogt with exterior design and naval architecture, and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design with the interior. It describes Musashi as a five-deck yacht with accommodation for 18 guests in 10 cabins and a crew of 24. Listed amenities include a glass elevator, pool, cinema, gym and fold-down swimming platform. How the design reflects its brief
YachtBuyer’s account characterizes Musashi as a more manageable successor to Ellison’s earlier yacht Rising Sun. It says the brief retained long-range capability and extensive glazing while aiming for a vessel that could cruise more widely and access smaller ports and marinas. The account also connects the design to Ellison’s interest in Japanese culture and to the samurai Miyamoto Musashi. These points are reported interpretation, not direct quotations from Ellison or the design team.

Interior materials and focal points
YachtBuyer describes the interior as combining Japanese influence—expressed through proportion, light and restraint—with Art Deco elements. Materials named in its profile include teak, Makassar ebony, Jerusalem Gold marble, silk carpets, chenille and cashmere. A glass staircase arranged around the elevator is described as the interior’s focal feature.

AOL describes Musashi as having cost “some $160 million,” and Luxurylaunches repeats the $160 million figure. Neither account, as cited here, establishes a documented transaction or current appraisal. The figure should therefore be understood as a reported cost, not a confirmed amount Ellison paid or a statement of what the yacht is worth today. Forbes Australia lists Musashi at an estimated value of $108 million, a different measure from a reported build cost. Its roundup also gives the yacht’s length as 285 feet, rather than YachtBuyer’s 288 feet. Without a primary valuation, verified sale record or current broker listing, neither value figure should be treated as a definitive current market price, and the dimensional discrepancy should remain attributed to the respective publications.
