The reported ₹3,122 crore financing for eight Airbus aircraft through GIFT IFSC cannot be verified from the available sources, so its lender, structure and claimed “first-of-its-kind” status should not be treated as established. Separate reporting documents other IndiGo aircraft-financing milestones through GIFT City, but they involve different transactions.
What is known about the ₹3,122 crore claim?
No primary announcement or company filing confirming a ₹3,122 crore financing for eight Airbus aircraft was found. The available sources therefore do not establish the aircraft involved, the lender, financing structure, terms, or what—if anything—would make that specific transaction the first of its kind.

That distinction matters because “first” can describe different milestones. A 2024 trade report concerned financing through IndiGo’s dedicated GIFT IFSC leasing entity; a 2026 law-firm announcement described a JOLCO transaction through GIFT City. Neither source verifies the eight-aircraft, ₹3,122 crore claim.
What IndiGo’s GIFT IFSC financing record does establish
Dedicated finance subsidiary
A 2025 annual-report filing excerpt says InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Private Limited, a wholly owned IndiGo subsidiary, received its captive finance company licence from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) on 26 June 2024 and began operations on 15 July 2024. The filing says it had financed more than 30 Airbus A320neo family aircraft as of 31 March 2025. InterGlobe Aviation annual-report filing excerpt

2024 commercial-loan transaction
Airfinance Global reported on 23 August 2024 that IndiGo financed an Airbus A321neo delivery through a commercial loan supported by Itasca insurance. Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank provided senior debt for four new A321neo deliveries under the facility. The publication described the structure as the first transaction through IndiGo’s dedicated aircraft leasing company incorporated in GIFT IFSC. This report concerns a separate financing, not proof of the alleged eight-aircraft deal. Airfinance Global’s 2024 report
2026 JOLCO transaction
In an announcement dated 6 March 2026, Clifford Chance said it advised SMBC on a Japanese operating lease with call option (JOLCO) involving two Airbus A320neo family aircraft for IndiGo’s GIFT City subsidiary. The announcement identifies SMBC as debt arranger and lender and SMFL as equity arranger. Clifford Chance called this the first JOLCO structure executed in India through GIFT City—a different, specifically scoped “first” from the 2024 claim. Clifford Chance’s announcement

What “first-of-its-kind” could mean
The phrase is meaningful only when the milestone is defined. The available sources support two distinct descriptions, not a verified first for the ₹3,122 crore claim:
- First through IndiGo’s dedicated GIFT IFSC leasing company: Airfinance Global used this description for the 2024 commercial-loan transaction it reported.
- First JOLCO executed in India through GIFT City: Clifford Chance used this description for the 2026 transaction involving two A320neo family aircraft.
These claims differ in financing structure, aircraft count and transaction date. Neither establishes that a financing for eight aircraft or ₹3,122 crore was a first, or that its structure matches either transaction.

Why GIFT IFSC matters for aircraft finance
GIFT IFSC is an international financial services centre in Gujarat. A Ministry of Civil Aviation release about the India Aircraft Leasing & Financing Summit on 8 May 2026 said Indian airline companies had previously depended on foreign financial centres to take aircraft on lease, and that the IFSC at GIFT City opened new avenues for aircraft leasing and finance. That is general policy context; it does not establish a particular deal’s savings, tax treatment or commercial advantage. Ministry of Civil Aviation release
The same release reported that IndiGo’s IFSC entity announced a plan to grow its portfolio from around 75 aircraft to nearly 150 by March 2027. This is a stated target, not a completed result. The separate annual-report figure of more than 30 aircraft financed by 31 March 2025 refers to past activity; the figures describe different dates and measures and should not be read as a direct like-for-like comparison. What the fleet order does—and does not—show
Airbus announced in June 2023 that IndiGo ordered 500 A320 Family aircraft, bringing the airline’s total Airbus aircraft on order to 1,330 at that time. The order provides fleet-growth context, but it is not evidence that any specific aircraft were financed through GIFT IFSC. Airbus’s 2023 announcement
What to check before treating the claimed deal as confirmed
A reliable account of the specific financing needs a primary announcement or company filing that identifies the transaction. Readers should look for:

- Revell Plastic Model Airplane Kit #85-5512 is skill level 4 and contains 147 parts. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
- 1:48 scale model, Length 14-1/4", Wingspan 16.75"
- Crew figures and weighted tires. Machine guns mounted in glass nose.
- Decals included to build one of two variants from the 345th Bomb Group, the Air Apaches.
- Molded in light gray and clear. Paint and glue not included.
- The amount and whether it is a commitment, facility limit, or funds drawn.
- The number and models of aircraft covered, and whether they are new deliveries or existing aircraft.
- The borrower or leasing entity and its jurisdiction.
- The financing structure, such as a commercial loan, finance lease, operating lease or JOLCO.
- The lenders, equity participants and any specifically stated novel feature.
Without that transaction-level evidence, naming a financier or asserting interest rates, tenor, security, insurance, tax benefits or repayment terms would go beyond what the available sources establish.
