India’s reported ₹1,86,405-crore Green Energy Corridor Phase III plan could create work for transmission operators, engineering contractors and grid-equipment suppliers. But the available coverage does not verify the claim that Motilal Oswal singled out Power Grid, Adani Energy Solutions, Torrent Power and three other stocks as a six-stock list. The scheme may create opportunities; it does not establish that any company has won an order or that its shares are a buy.
What the ₹1.86 lakh crore grid plan includes
Outlook Money reported on October 1, 2026, that the Cabinet-approved PM-DHARA/Green Energy Corridor Phase III scheme has a total reported outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore through fiscal year 2033. The plan is intended to expand transmission within states and support battery storage so more renewable electricity can reach the grid.
- Intra-state transmission: ₹1,36,378 crore is reported for intra-state transmission systems (InSTS), with the aim of evacuating about 135 GW of green power.
- Battery storage: ₹50,000 crore is reported for utility-scale battery energy storage systems. The reported capacity unit is inconsistent: Outlook Money describes a 50 GW objective, while a reproduced Motilal Oswal commentary uses 50 GWh. Without a verified government release resolving the difference, the capacity should not be quoted as a settled figure.
- Central assistance: Outlook Money separately reports ₹54,082 crore in central financial assistance to help ease state transmission utilities’ burden. It is described as assistance, not as an additional amount to add to the stated ₹1,86,405-crore scheme outlay.
The 135 GW figure describes the renewable power the transmission systems are intended to evacuate; it is not a capacity or contract award assigned to any one company.
Which listed companies could have exposure?
Potential exposure depends on the role a company can play. Transmission asset owners may bid to develop and operate projects; EPC contractors may build lines and substations; equipment makers may supply components. Outlook Money’s October 1, 2026 coverage and Upstox’s “Stocks to watch, Oct 1” identify possible avenues of exposure, not confirmed scheme awards.

These companies are not interchangeable. Asset owners generally need to win and deliver projects before operating them; contractors and equipment suppliers depend on orders and execution. The cited coverage does not provide comparable current valuations for these companies, so it cannot support a valuation-based ranking.
Why a large budget does not automatically mean higher company earnings
The outlay is a plan-level figure, not a promise of orders to a particular company. For an individual business, the path from a public allocation to revenue runs through several separate stages:

- Project readiness: State utilities must identify viable projects, prepare them for procurement and secure the necessary approvals.
- Competitive tendering: Projects may be awarded through competitive tariff-based bidding. Eligibility and bid economics affect which companies can compete and whether a bid is attractive.
- Award and financing: A company must actually win a contract and arrange the resources needed to deliver it. Being mentioned as a possible beneficiary is not a contract.
- Access and construction: Land and right-of-way clearances, equipment procurement and on-time execution can affect cost and schedule.
- Commissioning and returns: Revenue follows the project’s contract and operating arrangements; delays can push back commissioning and the expected return.
Outlook Money flags competitive bidding, state approvals and right-of-way clearances as conditions affecting project delivery. For investors, a company’s relevant pipeline, balance-sheet capacity and ability to execute matter more than the headline scheme amount alone.

The available Motilal Oswal material does not substantiate the title’s exact six-stock attribution. A reproduced October 1, 2026 daily commentary discusses Cabinet clearance and the scheme’s broad objectives but, in the passage available, does not name the six companies claimed. A separate Moneycontrol report says Motilal Oswal had a Neutral rating and a ₹302 target for Power Grid in a report dated March 23, 2026, published March 24. That was a dated view on Power Grid, not a recommendation on the six stocks or proof of scheme-specific orders.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services’ September 2024 “Power Utilities: Thematic” report estimated an Indian power-sector investment opportunity of ₹40 trillion or more over the following decade. It named Power Grid, JSW Energy and Tata Power as Buy-rated ideas, and NTPC and IEX as Neutral. That was a broad, historical sector view—not a budget allocation, current rating or PM-DHARA stock list. The report also said: “We also like the strong capex outlook for transmission, although we note that the competitive intensity in the segment has increased significantly.”
Those dated brokerage views should not be treated as current advice or as confirmation that the scheme has selected any company. The sources cited here do not verify Torrent Power as a member of a Motilal Oswal six-stock list.
